Golf Guru Question

My SkyCaddie SG2 crapped out a couple weeks ago.

 

I'm tossing around the idea of sending it in for repair, buying a new SkyCaddie, or trying the Golf Guru. I've read several of the reviews here and it sounds like a great unit.

 

My question that a friend brought up is the strength of the company. Are they pretty solid financially? If they aren't and they go out of business is the unit rendered useless?

I have no idea about the "strength" of the company. Since there is no subscription fee to expire, like with the SkyCaddie which disables all of your downloaded courses, should the Golf Guru people go out of business the (up to) 20 courses stored on it would still work and you could still use the unit to map courses yourself. There would be no more courses to download and no where to send it for repair should it cr@p out. I figured the units are relatively new, have been getting great reviews, as has their customer service, so they should be around for at least a few years. If they were not around and I had to buy another GPS after 3 or 4 years so what.

When you download courses, are you able to store them on your PC or do you have to download directly to the Guru ?

 

Being limited to the 20 that you would have stored on the Guru would be crappy if they were to go away ...

They are downloaded directly to the unit like most other GPS. If that is a determining factor, why not contact the company and let them know. They have been extremely customer oriented and maybe downloading to one's PC is an option they would consider in the future if it was standing significantly in the way of sales.
