Nippon 1150 Tour Vs. PX Vs. DG flex and ball flight quetion (need help
Hey all,

I am considering trying the Nippon 1150 Tour in my irons. I am going to reshaft my mp-32 6 iron to see if I like them. I haven't really ever hit a Nippon shaft so I am a little unsure where to start. From the information I gathered in comparison to other shafts here is what I have compiled:

DG: low launch, high spin
PX: Mid-High Launch, lower spin
Nippon 1150 Tour: High launch, High Spin

I was hoping someone who has played the DG & PX & Nippon 1150 Tour could give me a little more feed back in terms of the ball flight and flex profile and spin of the Nippon?? I went to the website and really didn't find too much useful info.

Now I play S400's in the DG's and 6.0's in my PX's. I was thinking of going X in the Nippons due to the lighter weight. Would the X in the Nippon play similar flex wise to the S400 & PX 6.0?

Thanks everyone!

I'm not so good on the spin, launch thing....BUT, the Nippons feel MUCH better than either the PX or DGs in my opinion. I haven't had much problem with the lauch or spin in my irons. In fact, I think the launch and spin are just about perfect for me.....True, if I get steep with the irons, they spin more; BUT, a purely struck shot has a nice, piercing trajectory.

I did a 7 iron comparison between the DG S300 (Stiff) and the Nippon 1150 (Stiff). Results for me (your mileage may vary)....

* I actually gained distance with the Nippon Shaft (1 club more).

* I normally launch my ball pretty high and I would say both shafts achieved the same height for me but the Nippon had a more boring trajectory (I tend to balloon the DG).

* This is subjective, I feel the Nippons are slightly less stiff than the DG.

The 1150's are the first Nippon shafts I've tried and want to reshaft my MP-60 set with it. Where can I buy these shafts in the USA?

If there's a way to buy just the shafts at retail. I haven't found it.

The Nippon Shaft website directs you to www.shaftology.com, which has a nationwide dealer locator of authorized installers.

The closest one to me's about an hour and a half away.

The Nippon website is very vague about the relative flexes of their products but directs folks to their fitting centers. I have the 1150s stiff soft stepped once and they are about 5.3 on the rifle scale put the club maker. The full flex 1150 is at least a full club softer than the DG S300. The DG are very stiff to flex and the Nippons are softer to flex and probably closer to standard stiff, but just a hair softer. The pick up of 15 less grams in shaft weight should help you swing faster for added distance.

That is great. I hit the ball high which I dont mind I was just curious about the spin. IMO I think I spin the DG's a little too much and the PX too little. I was hoping the Nippons may be right in the middle but with the limited info I have about them, I wasn't sure. I guess I will just have to test it.

I have played all three and still do. the x stiff in the nippons will play closer to your 6.0 in rifles.

i will say this my spin numbers are lower in the nippons than the dg s 300. i keep a set of irons with px in them for real windy days but that said i will play the nippons in the wind and just longer irons with half shot and three quarter shots cause i like the feel so much more. i play the 950 weight flow x stiff hard stepped

so that my swing weight will stay around d3 in a set of ta3s plus half inch in length. hope this helps.

Was it actually measured? and do you think if I hard stepped the shafts it would play close to 6.0 on the same rifle scale?
