Ping Irons

could use some advice
Hello All,
Long story short. I played Ping I3 Osize irons for about the last 8 or 9 years. I loved these irons and had no intentions of replacing them. Last fall several of my friends were meeting at Turning Stone Casino for some golf. One of my friends was transporting my clubs for me, he was involved in an accident. More than half of my clubs were lost.
Last winter I bought new clubs using a indoor simulator, bad idea. I was a little gun shy of the Ping I10's because I kept hearing they were for the lower handicap golfer. I ended up with Callaway X20 tours. I'm really not happy with the Callaways.
I have been checking E-Bay for Ping I3 o-size irons and this brings me to some questions.
Have any of you played both the I3 o size and the Ping I5's? Which club in your opinion is better? Can the I3's still be purchased new from Ping? What are your thoughts of the Ping I10's?
My handicap index is at a 14.8 and rising fast,I need your help.

If you still have any of the i3 irons, you can give Ping the serial # and they can replace as many clubs as you need.

The I5's are definitely the closest to the i3 O-size of available new Ping clubs.

I agree you can order new ones with your serial number. I think you can still order a new set of I3's if that's what you want. I know you can still get I5's because I got a set this March. I played Eye 2+, Zing, G2, G5, and I5. I5 is these best of them all IMO. Perfect blend of forgiveness without being toasters (although Ping does not make a toaster, they're all good). Best iron on earth.

I have played G2 TFC 100 Reg shafts for about four years. MY best scores with them have been in the mid 70's. I am flirting with moving a single digit hdcp from my present 10-12. I thought I was ready for them and got a set of I5's with TFC 100i Reg shafts. Both sets are Black, Standard LL.

Even though they are virtually the same specs and they produce very similar ball flights for me, I am ten to twelve yards shorter with the i5's. I hit demos before I bought, and I've played about 5-6 rounds with the i5's. I like the way they look and feel, but the loss of distance is disappointing,

Any ideas?

Golfdog352,

you can order any PING iron that has been mass produced except BeCu or Nickel models ( for enviromental reasons ) as PING cast their own irons and still have all the moulds. So you could get a ne wset of i3 o-size or you could give PING the serial number of the irons you have and they could match up the missing irons to the rest of your set.

I have both i5 and i10 and would think off your handicap I would look at i5's. Easier to hit, more forgiving and wider sole.

Would have to agree, with your handicap I would go with the i5's ! I still think most people are underating the forgiveness of the i10's. I only play about once a week and have no problem with mine. Not to mention, they are very easy on the eyes at address. For the record, I have hit the i3 blade against the i10 as well. Although I believe the i3 blade is a great iron, I like i10's better !!! I believe they are more forgiving and have a better feel than the the i3's.

Nice to see someone else from rochester on this site! I think the I5's are better because they have less offset and are a more compact head. It is all about getting the proper shaft in them anyway. I think the eye 2's are better than the i3 oversize also. I don't think you can get them new from anymore. I wouldn't be afraid of the i10s etiher. They are nice clubs at a great price. Whatever you get make sure the shaft and lie is right!!!

Thanks for all the replies, they are appreciated.

I'm going to try to get to my local club fitter and try the I5's, I10's, some of my old I3's, and maybe the raptures. What I think I'm getting from you guys is, the I5's are probably a little better than the I3's and I shouldn't worry to much about the I10's being labeled as player clubs. Would most of you agree that buying the I5's is money better spent than the I3's.(just being newer technology)

This will be my second set of irons in less than 4 months and I'm not sure how much more the wife will take.

I would go with whatever is the cheaper alternative, replacing the I3 irons you lost or buying new I5's. I don't think there is a lot of technology difference between the two.

I wouldn't do the i10's. Wouldn't do the current Raptures, but you may want to wait 3 months as some new options are likely to be available from Ping.

I'm in a similar boat, i owned eye2's for most of playing years. i then tried the i3 blades, i have just gone out and gotten x20 tours. callaway has really impressed me latelly. so i want to give these a run.

but back to the ping question. the i3's for me a a middle of the road iron, mid size, mid forgiveness, mid feel.

i have tried the i5's last year, and i though they felt really solid and with the bigger face, i felt confident, but they aren't bulky, so i didn't shy away.

i have tried i10's, wanting to like them, but haven't hit them very well. they look good, but have had a hard time with them.

in my mind, even if the i5's are bigger than the i3's, you will like the performance and feel you expect from a ping.
