Tokyo trip

Recommended Posts

Hey thanks for the pics - I just love Japan golf gear.

Look how clean everything is - they are all OCD's over there - just like I am :)

Look at the Odyssey putter grips - they are all nicely packed in an airtight plastic case :russian_roulette:

Do you speak Japanese or do most of them speak English in Tokyo ?

i went to victoria golf in shinjuku back in December and it was awesome. Prices are definitely much higher compare to the US golf products, although I thought the prices were very much in line w/ what tourspec is charging minus the shipping charges. I ended up buying a set of Mizuno JPX irons and a few gloves/grips. definitely worth checking out if anyone visits tokyo (it's right across the side entrance of takshiyama)

didn't know puma had golf stuff but

all of it is very hot.

I knew they had golf stuff, but we dont see much of it. I need those head covers , anyone know where to get some?

Where can I get the PUma Headcovers in the States , I have to have them!!!
Those different finishes on the MP33's are a-m-a-z-i-n-g!!! Any updates on where we can get those Puma headcovers [drool]?

Likewise, I am weak and couldn't resist.

Haven't seen those particular Puma headcovers before - there are others on the puma golf website - but just had to have one (!) so just ordered a white fw 'cover from lastagolf.com in Tokyo.

$40 + shipping though!

I have just returned from Tokyo.

WOW....There was some really special stuff to be found. I will post pics asap. HOWEVER i did get asked to put the camera away a few times.

I went to Victoria Golf in Shinjuku, real nice shop. BUT Golf Mecca was Ueno!!! Walk out of the station and cross the road in front of you and walk up and down the alleys and there was 6 shops, each 2+stories high within 100m of each other. I brought an Iomic grip, headcovers- pom-pom ones and a titleist stand bag. Most of my pics are bags because they were so cool!

I'm too lazy to look it up........what's the yen/dollar conversion?? In rough numbers....

thanks,

woo

roughly 100yen to 1 dollar

If that conversion rate is still correct, the prices are not bad at all, the Callaway driver head was only 50 bucks brand new not bad. Can't wait to see more pictures how come we never get cool stuff like that over here in the states?

Did you see any of the New Srixon Gear?

Also, you got pictures of those balls, are they only 1 yen?

Not hardly. Cally drivers were $500 each (50,000 yen), but you get 10% back in reward cash to use on future purchases. Those balls were closer to $70, with each sleeve costing a bit over $17 (given a 100 yen to dollar ratio--right now it's closer to 110 yen = 1 dollar).

Well.....Here are some of the photos that i thought may be enjoyed by all.

It was hard to take many photos as there were alot of sales staff around that were not that impressed by me taking photos. I was looking around so the GF took the photos as she didnt look as suspicous probably!!

The bags are so cool over there its crazy. They look shiny and nice when they are new but not sure how it will hold up over time.

I brought the royal blue Titleist carry bag in the photo by itself.

The Titleist balls (CZ- black, blue and gold boxes) are more expensive than Pro Vs but are not as good. They are a premium ball for the Japanese market only....2 piece construction. I think its like an NXT Tour/Extreme.

The ranges are crazy....100 bays long, 3 bays high and pretty full!

The pins lay down and spin around gradually getting longer so as to knock all the balls off the greens into the drains.

Enjoy the pics

Honestly, im not sure.....I dont speak japanese one little bit! I just pointed to the stuff i wanted and wrote the price i was willing to pay :black eye:

Notice the set of 9 irons -5-PW+GW+SW+LW for Y630,000....roughly $US6000 approx!!

I like the Titleist staff bag the most. White/Blue/Silver....very sweet

Sweet pics man!

How do the Japanese crowd view the US gear? Is there some sort of weird inverse relationship... where we want all their gear and they want all ours?

I can't even imagine that. I'm Asian myself and even though I play non-imported clubs, I wouldn't even understand why they'd want american clubs. Especially with all the different offerings they have. :black eye:

BTW, those are some really great pictures!

Depends on which product. The "US gear" that the Japanese like are actually still mostly Japan intended products but with that American flag, American manufacturer but Japan only product, or some sort of reference to American pop culture.

Examples:

Cameron, Byron, and Bettinardi putters made exclusively for the Japan market.

All those bags with US flags yet strangely are not available in the US.

Woodstock/Charlie Brown, Red Sox/Yankees items. They are totally different from the mascot/team logo items sold in the US.

The US products are also slightly cheaper than the same model Japan counterparts, usually because of shaft options etc. So stock US offerings have a market in Japan because of this.

I did notice that there is alot of 'not stock elsewhere but stock in japan' shelf options for drivers.

The callaway Legacy driver was in the stand with i think 4 different shafts in 9.5 Stiff...all slighlty different prices but to be able to justify having 4 of each with different lofts and flexes turns into alot of drivers very quick....makes me think they have a very good stock turnover.

As much as i have heard from a bunch of ppl about how the Callaway legacy Driver isnt available, yesterday by chance i was in a golf store in canada (golf town) and saw that they were carrying ths driver for the low low price of 799.99.

Golf Town is a big Chain and this one particular store is located in a large business and residental area know for its korean population. So i guess its possible to get that driver i just thought it was cool to see after hearing so much about it on this site
