Played 18 with it yesterday (mini review)

Got a sleeve of the new tour i balls yesterday morning and went and played 18 in the afternoon.
This ball really impressed me. I have been a loyal Prov1 user but have been looking for a ball to replace it.
Here's the skinny from the green back.
Putting: Felt very good off of the putter, not the click (harsh) sound of the ix. Just as good as the Prov1
Chipping: Could hit the low skipper and the low checker along with the high flop, Just as good as prov1
Irons: Might be a touch higher ballflight than the Prov1 but did not lose any distance, in fact may have gained 3-4 yards over
the prov1
Driver: A good 5-10 yards further than the prov1
Durability: This is something i was worried about, due to all the talk about the cover. Very, Very, impressed. I played the entire round with one ball, and it wasn't scuffed to badly. I normally get 8-9 out of a prov1.

Overall I feel this ball will be a major hit on the market. I see nothing it can't do that the prov1 can. If you are looking for a new ball to try this one would be it. I am making the change from Titliest to Callaway touri.

Nice review!!

I recently switched to the IX from the Pro V1X's and my experience was basically the same as your's. I never liked any of the other Cally balls and I only tried these because I got a free sleeve. After two rounds, I went and bought three dozen. :rolleyes:

I have tried the new Tour i's a couple of times now. Out of all the Callaway balls I have tried ( all of them for the last 5 seasons or so) this one fits my game the best. Like you dude I have used the Pro V1 for as long as I can remember, always tried the new balls on the market but always went back to the good old Pro V1.

Anyway getting back to the ball....... Have to agree with you again dude, excellent ball off the putter, behaves superbly around the greens, even when hit with a full hybrid or long iron. Good distance but wouldn't say it was longer than my Pro V1, if anything the Pro V1 for me was a touch longer but not by much. Nice feel off the driver and good flight even into the wind. This ball should be high on the list of anyone interested in trying a new ball this summer.

I used the ix a few times and I didn't care for the feel off the putter, but it was longer than the titleist.. so i bought two dozen of the trusty v1x. I think I might have to exchange a box for the tour i and give them a whirl. Thanks for the review. If you don't mind, what is your hc and ss?

Is it just me or do these balls just not want to spin on short little chip shots. Normally I get a couple feet of roll on around the green chips but i needed to give these 15 feet of room.

Did it feel soft and wonderful off of irons like a prov1?

I'm not married to any one ball, but god I love how a prov1 feels off of irons!

I had no problem with getting the spin on short little chip shots, pretty much the same as the Pro v1 for me in that aspect.

Tried them a couple more goes now and still enjoying them but hit them probably a tad too high

The new i-series balls are great...

Easily the best ball I've played in the wind.

I'd still take a Pro V1 around the greens any day, but it's a fair trade off the tee and everything else.

I tried the new Tour i ball. Love how it spins. Don't like how the cover cuts up. Very good ball overall.

In my opinion, the Callaway balls are more durable than the Pro V's. I've been able to use one ball for 18 holes.

Where as w/ the Pro V's, I'd have to switch after 9 or so.

I agree with Bomb and Gouge. I feel the touri is very durable, more so than the Prov1 and i have had no problems with short game spin on these balls. Seems to spin just as much as the prov.

I've been using the tour iX since they came on the market, after a rep let me do a ball fitting with some pre-release. They bite hard on little chip shots, but then again I am using spin milled Vokeys. You have to be careful hitting the iX hard with any of the wedges, or you better land it past the hole. Nothing feels as soft as a Pro v........

well balata does, off the irons, so the iX feels just O.K. One interesting thing I've noticed with chipping is how low the iX ball launches when compared to other balls side by side with the same swing.
