Need some ideas on what to buy

Finally going to take the plunge and look for an inexpensive hybrid to replace my 3 iron. I have been looking at Ebay for the last three days trying to find something very inexpensive so that I experiment with it. I don't know a whole lot about the hybrids and I wanted to get some suggestions about what to buy.

I have Cobra Bafflers 3R and 4R. I've had them for about a year and I'm very happy with them. I've also hear good things about Ping's new G5, Taylor Made Rsecue TP, and Nike's CPR. The best thing to do is go to a golf store or range and hit few and decide for yourself what YOU like the best.

You can find the Nike CPR's (w/ iRod shaft) and Tour Edge hybrids for roughly $55 new. Nice clubs to experiment with w/out breaking the bank.

 

Be sure to take a look in the BST forum as well...you may even be able to find something in there.

I have one of their 18 degrees on loan. It is a nice club, and is pretty easy to hit. I like how it sets up, and the price is very good. They have a full line of products, and after checking their stuff it looks and performs well at a good price. They could be the next "small" company to come up with a great line of clubs.

I also recommend the Nike CPR hybrid wood... I just bought the 22* w/ stiff shaft for $69 to replace my 3-iron... After figuring out that I should use it more like an iron than a wood, I'm loving it... I use this club every chance I get - tee, fairway, rough, chipping.

i have a tm tp 3 iron and it is amazing. although you need a high swing speed to get the right tragectory it fits my swing perfect

Try the Nickents. They are cheap, are available in a zillion lofts, come with good stock shafts, set up square and are very solid. Ballflight is med/high with no ballooning. They are also neutrally weighted.

I am also a Cobra Baffler fan, I currently have 2 (20°/23°), if I did not have those the Nickents would be my next choice.

Yes I agree try the Nikent 3DX they are just under $100 and they have a new version coming out very soon.

 

Also give the new Adams A2 and A2OS a shot they are great hybrids that alot of people don't look at because they are Adams and people tend to associate Adams with the Seniors only. I play it and it is the best looking and most solid hybrid I have ever owned.

I agree with utopiapga, the Adams IDEA hybrids are amazing. They are easy to hit and very long, they are definately worth considering.

I have the Nickent 3DX and I really like it. They come in so many lofts that you can get one for the distance gap you have, rather than the distance gap the manufacturer thinks you have.

I have the a Nickent 3DX tour version . I put a black diamana flowerband prototype 105g X flex shaft in it.WOW!! The reason I went with the tour is that it has a 1/2 degree open face where the retail version has a closed face. That is what I was told. The tour is straight to open face. Anyway a very solid feel at impact and has good weight . Nice stick!

That was the reason I didn't go with the Nickent, it had a closed setup. Other than that, it seemed very solid, when I didn't hook it.

I'm waiting for the Slingshot Tour hybrid due at TGW around Feb 10. I'm gonna give the 21* model with the "made for Nike" Diamana shaft a go for $169.

i have played with all different makes in hybrid...

i started with the hogan apex, then the TM rescue, next the Callaway heavenwood and now i play with an Adams tour proto 21* wi th a 904HB stiff shaft.... i find the Adams alot easier to get out of the deep stuff than all the other hybrids ive used in the past...it is also alot more forgiving of the tee...

 

the adams is not long in my bag but it will be there for a long time.....

The ping g5 is stupid easy to hit. The best I've tried to date. Tour edge exotics has one I havent tried yet. It probably will get in the line up when I get one.

I heard great things about the Cobra Baffler and I like them but I was really surpirsed by the Wilson Staff Hb5. ce_me_golf said it right...demo and go with what you like best. Go with an objective mind and even have the names taped up.

I have the 4Heavenwood , 23* from Callaway and I love it. I was looking for a 185 yd club and this works well. I went so far as to start using it for par 3's as short as 160 and choking up. Tried the Nike CPR 26* but couldn't hit it at all. The demo rep said to swing it more like an iron. If I could swing an iron well I would be using a 6 iron in the first place. Guess it all depends on the individual.

The Bridgestone J33 hybrids are awesome. Neutral and long. Bloody hard to get hold of though.

 

The 21 is my money club at the moment. What kind of wuss am I? Well I got stirred to start with and my mates even went to the length of getting a pink shaft but I have had the last laugh

I have been trying out a lot of the hybrids at the local Golf Galaxy - hitting into the screen. I really like the Mizuno, Hogan, and Sonartec because they seem to setup better for me. I really don't like the iron looking hybrids. I guess I will try to demo as many as I can before I buy.
