aldila nv-65 vs. aldila nv-75

missing right

i've been playing a nike ignite 410 9.5* with a aldila nv-75 stiff. this has been a great combination. typically a straight ball with an occasional fade and draw, but that was probably me a little off. i just picked up a nike ignite 460 9.5* with a aldila nv-65 stiff. this combination is long, but i'm fighting the right side, and my misses to the right are big, like aiming at the left side of the fairway and ending up on the far side of the next fairway over to the right. i haven't hit it this bad to the right since i was using a graphite design ys-6 (sprayed the ball everywhere with that).

i will agree that part of it is me, but i'm wonder if part of this is the difference between the nv-65 and nv-75. i'm thinking the 10 gram difference might be a factor with my swing and i'm going to experiment with some lead tape on the shaft. the other part of me is curious if this isn't because of the difference in torque, 3.5 in the nv-65 and 2.8 in the nv-75.

any insight would be appreciated.

also, as a side question, i noticed a small dent on the heel of the 460. very, very small. might this be a factor in the rights????

The shaft isn't the only difference - the 460 ignite head is completely different than the 410. I never liked the 460 Ignite head and stayed with my 410 before moving to the SQ (which i absolutely love). The SQ profile is more like the 410 (shallow face).

With the 460 vs. 410 you aren't comparing apples to apples. Different heads with different spin and launch characteristics. First thing i would do is try a 10.5* head in the 460 since it sounds like you are generating a ton of spin to hit it that sideways.

not sure i follow you. yes, the 410 and 460 are different drivers but i have just compared the two side by side and the 460 does seem a tad wider, but after measuring them the 460 is a little more than a 1/8" taller in the face and going across the 4th groove down on the face they are the same width. my understanding is that deeper face drivers produce less. as for a differnet loft, on the drives i had that were perfect, the trajectory was a little higher than my 410, and my 410 the last time i had it on a launch monitor was getting a 13.6 - 13.9 launch angle.

we can discuss the differences in the heads, but my question is really about the shafts.

I found the Ignite 460 to be a very anti-left head. I had a 10.5º with NV65s, and the right side was in play more. The one thing I didn't like about the 460 was that it was so upright looking at address, I always felt like I was going to hit it left. I think maybe I started aiming more right with it because of that. Other than that, that head was LONG for me. Great stick, but I've moved on... :cheesy:

First off, check your fundamentals! Aiming left only makes a slice/fade worse (opens your body more). The difference in shafts is marginal for most of us. Lower torque usually brings a tighter dispersion pattern. Many PGA Tour players are using a 3.5 degree torque shaft so I don't think it is being overpowered. Maybe consider shortening your driver a half inch (I'm assuming it's 45" long). I use a 44" regular flex Speeder 757 in my Fusion Tour Neutral 9.5 and I hit it out there (265yrds) with my Canadian PGA buddies but I hit WAAAAAY more fairways than when it was 45" long. And I'm a 12 handicap.

I think you need to have your local Pro look at your swing.

well, i won't argue there wasn't some over powering going on. the idea of an extra 50 cc made me think i was going to get more yardage. i think i just need to give it a little more work. plus, i will confess, i didn't sleep well the night before. wasn't going to play golf, but it was so nice out (75* no clouds) i just couldn't resist. also part of me just going for it was the lighter shaft, thinking i'll get a little more out of it and trying too much.

i can see the 460 being an anti left driver. in the trip to the range and on course i didn't turn one ball to the left, and normally with my 410 i'll have an ocasional shot leak left. i might play around with a little lead tape on the heel.
