ball selector test (maltby vert)

ok today i went to a local store that has one of the system setups that will tell you what ball is the best for your swing. I found it very interesting first i will give you my hard data that the system based the decision on. first swing speed. these are all averages taken from 10 swings.

swing speed---121.3

ball speed 184.7

backspin rate---2997 rpm

launch angle---13.5

now the ball that i have been playing and actually like very much is the nike one plat. i think (thought) it was a great ball. the test ranked the balls in three areas. over all performance, distance, and, accuracy. because we where hitting into a net the test guy said to ignore the total distance number it allways comes up short but that the carry to roll ratio is pretty accurate.

this is how the premium balls ranked for me just the top 5

the callaway tour ix according to this test was b y far the better ball. it again according to this test was an average 6 yards longer than the next ball ( nike one black), and 20 yards longer than the nike one platinum

the nike platinum was a smidge better on the accuracy rating but is so much shorter that i am going to have to try out the tour ix ball and see if the indoor test data translates the actual performance. if not than i think that i am going to switch to the nike black as it came in second overall.

funny thing though titleist prov1s is not even in the top ten. this is interesting because i have always hated the prov1, so this just confirms that i shouldnt even try them.

what do you guys think about these ball test? Are they worth it? what are your results?

Interesting, was the Prov1x even a choice, I read somewhere on this site that the prov's are not even a choice unless you ask to have them in. Just asking? I hope whatever ball you choose works the best for you and you shoot lower scores....

Yeah, I love both the Tour ix and the Tour i. Followed very closely (if not even) with the Taylormade TP Red LDP. I would have thought it would have been somewhere on the list. The Tour ix will be the next box I purchase.

you know i dont know if they just left the prov1s off, they said the list included all premium and standard balls. that would be interesting to know if it was not included.

I just went and had this done about an hour ago. The ProV1 is not included unless you select it as a choice. So, it may have been in the top 10 if you would have selected it as your "favorite ball".

 

I had very similar results to you with the exception of the Bridgestone which was 10th on my list. The ProV1 ended up in 4th for me. Let me know your results with the iX. I bought a sleeve, but won't get a chance to use them anytime soon.

I have been wanting to try out a few different types of balls without buying a full dozen of each. Are there any websites that sell most brands of balls in sleeves so you can try out different products? I have tried ProV1 and V1x, but would love to try Nike One Blacks and Platinums as well as the Callys. I would also be interested in trying out some Bridgestones.

I picked up mine at the Golf Galaxy I was fitted at. Usually they have the sleeves up front. If there is a ball you want to try that they do not have a sleeve for, ask if they can break down a box for you. The one by me usually does it no problem. If you want to get a dozen of the balls, I'd check eBay. Usually can save a couple of bucks if you buy new, more if you settle for slightly used.

 

I was in the same boat as you on wanting to try new balls. I suggest getting ball fitted. I read freedom35's thread about his fitting and Golf Galaxy is nowhere near as comprehensive as the place where he got fitted. I figured for $20 though, I could get a decent idea of the balls that would better fit my swing and I wouldn't waste any money on balls that aren't right for me.

The reason that the titleist golf balls dont show up is because titleist didnt want to test there golf balls with golf works...........they were actually tested and will show up if the fitter enters into the computer that the prov or ect is your golf ball of choice..........you can always ask the fitter to run the test again with the exact same numbers just to show you were it would rank
