radargolf, for the gizmo freaks

about radargolf
I got the radar golf setup after not being able to find a ball where "it had to be". I am a gizmo golf guy with my laser range finder, my segway golf cart, and now my radar golf balls. Played today and found two balls that I was not able to find without the radar sensor. The balls seem good quality and plays pretty well. The price of the setup was $199, which seems alot, but if it saves you a few strokes a round it is worth it.

It does not really save you any strokes, just saves the otherwise lost balls. It'll pay for itself after you find the 100th lost ball approximately.

What about strokes for lost balls? A lost tee shot is stroke and distance, the second tee ball is your 3rd stroke. Any lost ball is at least a stroke. The only way it won't save you strokes is if you give yourself unlimited, penalty free, mulligans.

If you are playing fantasy golf in your mind it saves strokes. Otherwise for competitive rounds or posting for handicap this would not be legal.

If you had mentioned competitive rounds or posting for handicap earlier, I would have agreed, but you didn't. Having a device that will enable you to find all your in bounds balls will save you strokes, every time, to suggest otherwise is absurd.

You're worried about following the letter of USGA rules by taking stroke and distance, using a device that is clearly way outside the rules. Now that is absurd. If you keep score but don't follow the rules I'm not sure what your score even means. You can also take a mulligan on every hole - that saves strokes as well, and is cheaper.

The USGA will allow its use for handicap purposes but not for Tourney play. Similar to my laser range finder with slope. The strokes are saved by the distance you keep when you find your ball. You may still need to take a stoke to chip it back into play, but at least you are hitting 3 from the fairway and not the tee box. It also is a good confidence builder to play the same ball all day.

from the radar golf website:

Does the RadarGolf System conform to USGA rules?

The USGA states that scores may still be submitted for handicap purposes since the RadarGolf System does not assist in the physical execution of the golf stroke. Therefore, the RadarGolf system is allowed for posting USGA handicaps.

Using this device will cut strokes from your score. It may not be allowable in tournaments, but that was NEVER the point that xtremeinaz made, nor did you, UNTIL your second post. I guess back peddling in your second post to clarify what you meant in your first post (instead of just acknowledging the obvious) is sort of like taking a mulligan, eh?

Touche. I was obviously spouting off way beyond the state of my knowledge.

Range finders and GPS I can see but this gadget takes the fun out of looking for a lost ball in the woods.

I don't get it

I shred my golf ball after 2-3 wedge shots - and even have to throw it away after only 1 or 2 wedge shots sometimes - so why would I need a ball finder ?

I use 3-4 balls pr. round of golf anyway. The "Radar golf balls" are more expensive than my TP red LDP balls and what do I need a radar for, if the ball has to be disposed of on the next hole anyway ;)

I don't get it :drinks:

True that alot of people shred balls, but I don't spin balls like crazy. Also when I said that you can play the same ball all day, I meant that you could if you wanted to. I do depending if I don't hit the cart path or some rock. This product is for the people that lose balls. I'm sure people who do can see the advantage of this product. To be honest I can afford to buy ProV1s all day, the cost of the ball is not the concern. The fact that I lose it and it cost strokes is. There was an article in a Golf mag that asked people if you would pay $15,000 to be a scratch player overnight. I would do that for sure.

I have seen a lot of odd gadgets on the course and this is not a gadget for me, but I can see the appeal to some. Pros have the gallery and marshalls to spot their errant shots, so I guess it is only fair. I imagine Titleist, Callaway and all the premium ball manufacturers would not offer a device that would enable people to stop losing their $4 a pop golf balls.

Anyone currently using Radargolf?

My wife only has 7% normal vision & loves to play golf. But it's tough for her to find her golf ball without my assistance. I don't mind giving her a hand, but it can sometimes be tough when I'm on the other side of the fairway.

This would also speed her game up immensely, and would make the game more enjoyable for both of us.

The ball would also suit her game quite well.

Thanks

Which makes it essentially like reverse sandbagging... all you do is create a handicap that you can't play to in competition. I can see it for someone with limited vision, or who doesn't play competitive golf, but otherwise all you do is hurt yourself.

If I average losing something less than one ball per round outside of a water hazard (probably a good guess, never kept records on it), then I just see that as part of the cost of playing the game. A person can gimmick himself to the poor farm in this game if he's not careful. ;)
