The Innisbrook Resort has the very best golf in Florida and is just 7 miles north of Clearwater on US-19. You may have to book a room there to play golf there but do it if you are going to be in the area. Once you've been there, you can't wait to go back! :clapping:

I was there in August. Played Innisbrook, TPC Tampa Bay and the Tides.

The tides is one of the cheap courses for retirees. Lots offun, but not a great course ( $30 including cart).

Innisbrook (played Copperhead) was a very good course - fair and challenging - the resort is top-notch (I wasn't staying there but had a look around) - The round was app. $200.00, quality was excellent - this is where they host the PGA tour Pods event.

TPC Tampa was actually very impressive. I had read reviews that were somewhat critical, and I thought the course layout and general architecture was top notch. Yeah, your paying almost the same as at Innisbrook, and the clubhouse and amenities seem to be less extensive, but the course was in as good shape, the design was probably better.

From what I hear, Barren Pines atWorld of Golf (further north, 1 hour from Clearwater) is the best in the area.

Stick with Innisbrook and TPC if you want good golf and are willing to pay some $$ (Innisbrook is the closest of the two to Clearwater, 25 minutes). If you want to have fun, hack away and play for beer, there's plenty of courses in and around Clearwater.

Have fun!

I'm going to piggyback this thread opposed to starting another...Just found out my wife has booked us a house in Bayview/Clearwater Beach over the week of Christmas! Wow, golf galore I hope.

There will be two of us and would like to golf at least three days that week, different courses and within a fair amount of driving time. First and foremost I would like to play an awesome course we can get on, tops at say $200 a round, then for the other 2-3 possible rounds I'd prefer something under the $100 range. I'm not hard to please (if you saw a few of the courses I play here in Ohio!). I've never done anything like thise so any suggestions, etc would be very helpful. Do I need to make tee times now or wait?

Any course sugesstions would be great, I've looked at Innisbrook online and Lansbrook (I think it is close and like $50 a round), but figured before I go making too many plans I'd do best to ask everyone here.

Thanks!

i live in this area and there really arent many great courses in Pinellas County (Clearwater) besides Innisbrook. there are decent ones, but if you are looking for top-rated courses, Innisbrook is the only one. If you can, try to go to World Woods (probably an hour and a half from Clearwater Beach). its unbelievable.

as for decent courses, TPC Tampa is pretty good most of the time. Right down the road from TPC is a really nice track called Heritage Harbor. its always in great shape and the rates are great. Bardmoor is ok. You can also try Dunedin Country Club (former home of the PGA). its an older style course but its recently been upgraded and is a fairly decent track for the $$$. also, just over the Skyway bridge in the Manatee/Sarasota area are LOTS of really good courses: Arnold Palmers Legacy course is one of my fav's...have fun!

Its a little over an hour from TPA over the Skyway in sarasota there are a ton. We are members at Stoneybrook CC. It is private and gated but they do have a public rate that NOBODY knows about. lIt is around 90 a round. The one bad thing is everyone that are members are old retired and SLOW. My dad owns a house for my grandmom so when we go down we just play golf everyday. IT is right across the street from TPC Prestancia. There are also ,amy nice public courses in Sarasota...just a lot of old old people who REALLY take their time.

TPC Tampa Bay is a nice track, Copperhead at Innisbrook is great, Foxhollow is another good one that's always in top shape. I've also played the Palmer Legacy course at Lakewood in Sarasota...awesome track! World Woods is hard to top with 36 holes of terrific golf, you can probably play them both for about $100 or so. If you are willing to venture anywhere near Disney - Osprey Ridge is very nice, Championsgate and Orange County National are both superb 36 hole layouts. Lots of great choices in the central Florida area.

OK, no one has mentioned Westchase GC. A great course, I play it a lot when I'm down there, look on line, they have a winter pass for 50 bucks which gives you a discount on your round, last year it was $39.

My brother-in-law likes the Eagles Golf Course, it is a nice track and they have 27 holes. Chi Chi has a course on McMullen Booth Rd. in Largo which is very cheap and fun. I hope Dunedin is in better shape than it was in Feb., was not impressed although it does have history.

TPC is very nice, great track. If you don't mind an hour drive, head toward Bradenton, east of I75, some beautiful courses.
