How stiff are PX 7.0's?

Over my head???

I just got a set of Nickent 3dx pro irons with PX 7.0 in "like new" condition from Ebay for $175. I currently play DG X100's and have hit PX 6.5's. Neither seemed overly stiff (the X100's are actually a tad soft). Am I in for a rude awakening? I have a set of PX 6.5's that I can shim and put in the 3dx's if I get my arse handed to me so I'm not really worried, just curious. This should be interesting...:)

Driver SS is 110ish, 6' 175lbs if that helps. 9i goes 155-160 yds...

Doesnt hurt to try em! If I were buying a new set os PX Satins, I would do 7.0 for sure. Sounds like you hit it plenty hard, so it shouldnt be an issue. Are the 6.5s loading and releasing properly for you?

I'm at 116 with the driver and hit my 9 iron about the same and I didn't find them to be crazy stiff, but don't get me wrong they are pretty stout. I liked the extra weight versus the 6.5s and they don't tend to go left as much. I don't think you will be in for a rude awakening, but be prepared to not even feel the shaft load.

If they are .355 taper tip, satins and you DONT like them, then let me know. :)

Remember also that with PX, if you go too stiff you will actually get more spin. So shots might balloon on you with the 7.0 vs the 6.5.

I know it sounds crazy, but even the guys from TT have said it on here. Something about the mid stiffens up but the tip stays softer in relation to mid. So if you dont load the shaft completely you end up with a tip soft shaft.

I think the PX's are .370, because the 3dx head is .370 but they may be shimmed??? I'm excited to try this combo.

thanks for the info. I'll be on the lookout for excessive spin. It seems a bit counterintuitive, but then a lot of things about PX seem to be 'backwards'.

Update after playing the PX 7.0's.

I love these shafts. Very solid and no issues with them being too stiff. This is the shaft I've been looking for! I can move the ball left or right and even 3/4 shots don't feel boardy.

I'm very happy I took the chance.

yea px has always seemed soft to me. i doubt the 7.0 will be too stiff. i swing 110 - 115 so right around your swing. i actually had a px in my hybrid which was meant to be 6.0 but i bought the wrong length so it was tipped and cut and all and ended up cpming out to a 7.8 shaft. i lost 20 yards but it still didnt feel that still. that being said i pulled it!! but i think you'll be fine and it might even help consistancy a bit.

I thought the biggest difference between the 6.5 and 7.0 was weight?

I didn't know that 6.5 and 7.0 were the same stiffness and only changed the weight but it would make sense. I was a bit intimidated at first but they're really not that different so the weight thing sounds right to me.

The master clubmaker that taught me how to build clubs told me that, I guess I was just confirming it.

Good to hear those 7.0's are working out for you. I switched from DG's after my clubs got stolen to PX 6.0's and wow what a difference.
