Building an Iron set against the manufactures

Maltby, Toski or Snake Eyes not sure

So I am thinking about building a set of irons that go against the manufactures you know a sleeper set were everybody stares and and goes huh. So I wan to build myself a set of nice players blades from either GolfWorks or GolfSmith
Looking at either the
Maltby MMB Muscle Back Blade
Toski T54 Form Forged Blades
Snake Eyes 675B
I would installing Project X 6.5 or Black Gold X100 depending on ball flight of the head

All have great reviews from the suppliers site but wondering if anybody is playing these and What your setup is. Shaft and head
What your trajectory is estimate launch angle and distances

I personally play Snake Eyes 600c irons and have been rotating a combination of driver, 3 wood and hybrids from Snake Eyes as well. I have tried Maltby and comparatively I would say to go with Snake Eyes. Maltby is a bit cheaper but I don't believe they are that much better. You can get bad clubheads from any company, but I got them fairly consistently last season before switching to snake eyes. You could also check out Tom Wishon, he did design all of Golfsmith's clubheads until 99 or 2000 i think. He's a bit more expensive but Wishon is definitely worth it.

With the Maltby irons you can use taper or parallel tip shafts. With the Snake Eyes irons you can only use the .370 tip shafts.

I would personally go with either the toski's or snake eyes, the 675's are sweet.

My Wishon 770CFEs play pretty much the same as my extravagant retirement gift to myself, the Miura MC-102s.

 

Excellent clubs. At my age, it's entirely possible that I'll never buy irons again. I'm all set.

A company that deifinitely gets the "huh?" look is KZG. Like Miura, they make some of the best forgings available from any company IMO. Yet another company in that category is Scratch golf.

 

As stated above, Wishon has some excellent stuff too.

The Maltby's get my vote. Back up set currently, but easily my favorite of the bunch. Looks great, actually forgiving, and tip options.

I've played many Snake Eyes offerings, and I like them a lot. Just not as much as the Maltby MMBs.

Wishon heads are fantastic also.

 

No matter what you choose, they will not disappoint. Have fun.

Wishon 550ms get my vote - they are super soft and so easy to hit - never been so confident even with the 3 iron....

 

but the snake eyes 600B's look sweet

As former shop owner, club builder, club fitter and staff member with several OEM's, I was totally surprised to find myself in love with the quality of the Wishon 550's that I built for myself on a whim last year. Definitely top quality and extremely playable for a traditional blade. I am building a set of the newer Wishon 555's over the winter to use as my regular gamers (even though the Muirfields will always have a treasured spot in my heart).

I only have experience with Snake Eyes (on my 2nd set now) but would highly recommend them. Finding the right shaft fit is key though. Would also be sure that the head weights are all what they should be.

I built over 20 set of the Maltby MPC and MMB, both alone and as combo sets. The reviews have been excellent. These are very, very nice iron heads.

I'd also recommend the Maltby's. I have the MTF cavity, but hit the MMB prior to deciding. They were just about as forgiving as the MTF, but I wanted a little extra help for those "off" days.

 

GolfWorks makes top quality heads, both the Maltby and Toski. And definately a "sleeper" set, as most regular golfers haven't heard of the Maltby's.

 

Good luck with whatever set you build, all that you've mentioned are top quality.

I have a set of smt 303mb as a back up set that i love they feel really good take a look, there a true blade. I think I am still a deeler for them if you need anything.

Toski t54 hands down are the best feeling forged blades we carry and since its been snowing here like mad I've been inside the shop hitting almost all of our forged clubs and i just found the Toskis to be the better feeling head ares are matched with tx tour shafts but with the project x's would probably play really nice.

Totally agree here. Playing the 675c's and love them. Nothing better IMHO. The B's are the best looking blade out there and you will definately get some compliments from your foursome while playing. People are always asking why I play Snake Eyes. It has translated into some side jobs as well. Nice to help people out and save them $$$.

Thanks guys i think i might go with the Toski they do look really sweet and i got them from golf works for 18.80 per head CGTF Discount and i got a 2 iron they had as well. But to make matters worse i just got a Set of the Adams A Tour Irons the one with the black hossel the Tom Watson clubs brand new maybe the last set in the world right from the Fletchers Warehouse. I now have the Following

I love my A tour Blacks, never had an iron that was so easy to hit yet looked so good.
