370 Parallel Head installing 355 Taper?

Okay I have a sweet set of Project X 6.5 Pulls 3-PW Multi Compound grips and all 355 Taper Tip

I was going to pull my Idea Pro Tour Issue Irons and put these shafts in, I assumed being forged they are 355 Taper but no they are 370 Parallel dam it.

Now I have talked to a few club builders and its split down the middle it seems don’t install them do install them and shim them you wont feel any difference.

 

What is the case here.

Can I have a club builder install my 355 Taper Tip shafts into my 370 Parallel heads. What are the pros and cons if any.

Or should I just try to trade for 370 parallel?

If I do install I was just going to order some shims from golfsmith

All you need are shims similar to these.

should be no problem to shim them and play them, when done right, you wont know the difference

Have done several, no problem if all surfaces are clean. Use plenty of epoxy.

I see the shims at golfsmith they look pretty simple.

So i just shim the tips first let dry overnight then install as normal correct?

Is it still a pretty easy job or should i pay Golf Town to do it

You can do it all in one shot. Dry fit to make sure you aren't going to run into any problems then load up with epoxy and go. It's really a simple job.

Make sure that the shims don't go above the top of the hosel or your ferrrules will be obstructed when you install. If they do just take scissors and trim to fit. Use pickblade's advice and always dry fit everything.

I did a set using shims for a really high speed swinger and had a couple budge about a 32nd, which I pulled and reshafted, they never let go but they did move a tinch. This was a rush buddy-build so you get things like this in a rush to be able to do battle the next day, and experience is always the best teacher.

I could have done some things to prevent it like, trimming the shims down to about 5/8s in length (the shims are produced to be used in woods and irons, irons don't need much) and eliminating every other one, sanding both sides of the shim, roughing up the inside of the hosel (some factories are producing a really smooth bore, not the best for adhesion), and using some higher strength epoxy, so you see its a labor intense prep, not a job you want to drop off and pick up an hour or two later. While your at it, you might as well enlarge the ferrule bores so they slide easily on and allow room underneath them for epoxy, that way you have them nailed down tight you don't want one of them to creep, you'll loose sleep at night wondering "did the ferrule creep or the head move?".

PXs are a great shaft, do a good job and you'll really enjoy them.
