Seven clubs or fewer?

You have quite a mixed set there. I like it! I imagine having a Goodwill challenge where each person has to go to a Goodwill and you can only spend $10 and whatever you find you have to play with and see who shoots the lowest score.

FYI. Last year they cleaned out all of the old clubs at our local thrift. Walked away with a useable set for $9.50 with the bag. Played pretty well too. I like your idea. The pros ought to try it some time.

In this years bag will be a D, 7w, 7i, SW, P. 5 clubs and no more than 4 extra golf balls. One set relatively modern, one set decidedly vintage. No electronics, phone in the car. Carry bag. Still waiting for decent weather (for me) here in Wis.) My body still says it's too cold. And I'm counting down (10 wks) (Lord willing) until I officially retire. Then it's no more weekend golf for me! Yippeeee!

I have carried a 7 wood on and off for the past few months and for me I think it's greatest attribute is its ease of use around the green. A bump and run from the fringe is so easy it feels like cheating. Congrats on your retirement.

I love a 7w too. Nice to see a few pros carrying one occasionally. For vintage I really like the 4w. The course I play, I'll bet I could play the whole thing with a 7w, 8i, and P. Maybe I'll try that this summer!

Hi Guys, I'm back.  I've gone to a "all Lazrus Golf" bag. I'm now carrying nine clubs. Same Ping G25 driver and Wilson 8802 putter. I now carry the Lazrus 3, 5 & 7 hybrids and a Lazrus 8-iron, 9-iron, pitching wedge along with a Cleveland DIACTIC 53* gap wedge. I can cover all the distances from 6200 yards with a choked down hybrid. At the white tees I've generally have a 7 hybrid to pitching wedge into the green. I put about 10 grams of lead tape on the back of the 3 hybrid to help get it airborne. I'm now getting 180-210 yards, and I thinking of having it sent to the Smithsonian when I die! (Lead tape is your friend.)

Side note: Those Lazrus clubs are pretty good and only about $47.00 each from Lazrus or Amazon. My son is hitting my old Mizuno blades (MP 64s forged with a cavity) I used to play. He's 27 and has the strength to get the distance from those clubs. Those inexpensive clubs are golden...I kid you not! I'm a dead solid lock from about 140 (the 8-iron distance) on in. Naturally, I only aim for the middle of the green and roll the putt to the high side. This is why I spend so much time on lag putting. Speed is paramount over line. Find the line, but sweat the speed.
