Sonartec or Callaway?

Which fairway wood do you prefer?
I've been a fan of both ;) and ;) fairways. Last year I started with a Cally BB 3w but then went to an NP-99 15* and have never had better success off the tee. I recently tried a SS-2.5 and found it very similar to the NP-99 except it seems to sit slightly more square and feel a little better. Really like the look of the X fairways. Can anyone compare these two brands? Thanks.

Ill be the descenting voice here. Ive tried many Sonartecs and found them to be very good but not better than my Callaway SHIII 3+ or the VFT Pro Series. For me the Callaways provide the best combination of distance and forgiveness. I agree some of the Callaway offerings are hook faced especially the higher lofted models but the Pro Series and + models are square or just a smidge closed. That being said Im still going to try out the SS-07 ;)

I add my vote to the Sonartec camp - the SS3.5 (15*) is a great club, especially of a tee. The boring trajectory it gives into a wind is what I need out of a 3 wood on certain days. Never been a real Cally fairway fan. I think the Steelhead III was their best fairway effort (IMO) to date. The X Tour hasn't really grabbed my attention in any way, they don't seem to be moving in any great numbers at any of my local retail haunts. I assume the current Big Bertha (steel) fairway will be updated / replaced soon - one things for sure, you don't have to wait too long for something new to come out of the Callaway camp.

I like both but, the Callaway X is more forgiving for me and not much shorter and the Fusion is out of site. Of course I'm a Cally... :yahoo:

I have an old Callaway S2H2 13* and when I used to hit it I loved it. It looked big. But now I am used to my Sonartec SS-07 which i would recomend because its beautiful and you can bend the hell out of it. With Callaway you are stuck unless you shim it. I also have an SS-03 and you can kill them. I am a low ball hitter so I like the SS-03 for tee shots because it goes when you hit it. But I'll stay with my 3 and 5 SS-07's for now. They are great and you get to build them how you want. Callaways are probably easier to hit but a pain in the a** to reshaft or bend the loft, lie, or face angle. The SS-07 you can do all.

Guys, the original poster asked this over 4 months ago and is now playing a TM fairways (a step back in my mind :cheesy: ). But for the sake of adding my 2 bits . . .

Sonartec wins hands down in my mind. Callaway makes some extremely good performing fairways (I personally like the older ones better than the new . . . SH+ is still the best Cally FW in my mind), they are some of the hardest to look down at at address. Sonartec's traditional appearance and solid performance and ability to fit players into their clubs makes them the best in my mind. Sadly, Callaway's current line of fairways fit players into two categories . . . those who can afford the fusion, and those who will settle for steel. Callaway would have a much better run at my bag if they went back to the SH+ sized head and added a hosel.
