Has anyone noticed that the Callaway tour balls aren't as white as other brands. Uhh.. ehhhh... weird.

Noticed that on the Ix's. It does make it easier to tell which is yours though. Must be the polymer.

is it just the ix? Their less expensive balls are bright white. I've always identified Titleist by how dull they are.

It was the same thing with the HX Tour--especially when it first came out.

The type of urethane used on Cally and Titleist tour balls (and I think TaylorMade but not sure) is a really dull white (almost an almond color in some cases). Consequently these balls are painted, so the part you see is paint, not the true cover. This is part of why it looks like these balls scuff so easily, some of it is just the paint got scraped off. The paint has gotten whiter and more durable over time. The Surlyn/Ionomer balls are a much brighter white and do not need paint.

 

I've found the Cally balls look pretty good out of the box, but do dull quickly with use.

THey purposely put a blue hue to the balls. Makes it easier to spot your ball.

Duller white balls seem softer when it comes to your conscience brains depiction of feel. Callaway had a multi page internal document leaked to the web a few years ago that discussed a massive ball testing effort they under took to see what changes could be made to a golf ball cosmetically to alter a players perception of a balls performance. Color was one of them. The bright the ball was the harder the test subjects perceived the ball to be even when it wasn't the case. Even though it was like 10 pages of test group studies being the golf junkie I am I actually found it quite interesting.

I was looking at a brand new ix in the bright sunlight on sunday (but it was not mine). To me i thought it almost had an irradescent look to it like the pearl but not as extreme. I thought mayby it was the green lenses in my costa sunglasses ( which sometimes makes thing look "funny") so i did not think anything about it until i just saw this. Antone else get this preception?

That´s strange, since the eye tends to think a dull white is bright white if there is no comparison. I wouldn't have noticed the Callway is a duller white unless I had another ball to compare it to.
