found a deal but don't know if i should leave my current ball
so i'm currently playing the b-stone e6+ and am running out of my stock (usually i buy my balls in a couple dozen so i get familiar with it). while looking online i found a good deal on some nike one blacks 08 and wanted to get a general opinion on if they would be better than the e6's or should i look elsewhere for a good deal. any info / opinion is greatly appreciated.

i just realized i can get the same deal for the black or platinums, i dont know how heavy a hitter i am....155 for an 8 iron. from what i understand that platinum is a stronger ball, do you think it will be a big difference in spin vs. the e6. i just don't know if that much spin will adversely affect my game, change up my distances.

One Blacks are a good ball. I have played many of them. If you are coming from the E6+ you would be better off going to the E7+.

IMO A way better ball than either of those, and you will enjoy the same soft feel of the E6, but get a nice 3 piece ball. It is my ball of choice if I dont want to spend 40 some odd bucks for a box of balls. Now over $40 you cant beat the z-star.

I don't think the One Black is meant for lesser swing speeds, it just has a firmer cover, a little less spin and thus is supposed to be slightly longer compared to the Plats all things being equal. I play both balls and they are excellent. IMO the Black is a better ball than BStone e6+. There should be some deals for remaining stock, since the Tour, Tour D are the current line now.

my biggest concern is that the platinum will spin too much, i can generate a fair amount of spin stopping most everything with the e6 except for the green side chips. would the black provide a sufficient amount of spin around the green or is the platinum where it's at? from what i've read there's a distance loss with the platinum, don't know if that's hype or not.

I like the Z-URS much better. You can find great deals on these balls all over the place. Most places are selling them for $25 or so a dozen...this ball is a steal at that price.

As previously stated, the Z-Star is the best new premium ball out there if you want to spend over $40 a dozen (that is if you can find them).

I haven't tried the Blacks, but I love the Platinum's. I think the Black is for a little less swing speed and has a little less spin.

I don't know about slower swing speeds, but I do find that the Plats loose a lot of distance compared to the Blacks. I love the the Blacks. Can't play the Plats.

The NOB really doesn't seem to get to much love around here, but I played it for a couple of years and really liked them. I am more of a high spin player so the blacks really helped to balance that out for me. Not the greatest ball around the green but I would think it would certainly be an improvement over the e6. I have currently migrated to the cally tour ix or the TMTP red but I wouldn't hesitate to put the blacks back into play if I needed to. just my 2 cents

Not all NOBs are created equal in my opinion. Some of the first ones out are very different than the 2008 version fwiw.

The 2008 version is an awesome ball. I am a high spin player that has had issues w/ spin both off the driver and iron and went searching at the beginning of last year for a better ball. I didn't even want to try the NOB as I hated previous "rock" versions. I went ahead and bought a sleeve and to my suprise, it was the best of all the balls I tried.

Long flat flight off all clubs....drop and stop action on the greens w/o spinning back 12 feet w/ every wedge. Great feel and feedback off the putter and wedges.

I bought 6 dozen and still have a few left...they are great, and for the price you can buy them for now, I'm going to stock up. Not even interested in trying the new 09 balls. The 08 NOB is perfect for my game.

thanks for the responses, i haven't been back to this site in a while and i don't know why i left.....if i have little issue stopping the e6 except for short chips from time to time, would you think that the platinum would be too much. my only concern is that the black is a harder ball that emphasizes distance strongly over spin, my concern is that the plat spins too much for someone who doesn't have an issue running off greens from 160 and in.

I think that the e6 is a distance over spin ball as well. If you are looking for something similar in performance and feel then the NOB should be to your likeing. If you are worried about spinning the ball I would not go with the NOP because that is what it is supposed to do!

While the NOB is lower spinning than the NOP, it's not a low spin ball. In a golf ball test done by golf magazine, it was 3rd highest spinning (I may be off a bit) with the wedge. The NOP was 1st, but the NOB was ahead of most other premium balls. So I wouldn't call it low spin for a premium ball, just lower spin than the Platinum.

In short, the NOB spins plenty...:)

I played a Platinum I found this year and was very impressed with the feel off the short irons. I also compared it to the Black which I had a sleeve of and the Black was on the average 12 yards longer off the driver than the Platinum (97 mph clubhead speed w/ driver). However, I found it just as easy to control the Blacks with my wedges as I did the Platinums. The Blacks had a firmer feel but I could still manipulate the spin on them and to be honest they are almost a little bit more forgiving than the Platinums. If I caught the shot fat with a wedge the Black would release a little bit, where as the Platinum would stop where it hit for the most part leaving me a longer putt with the Platinum. I was very impressed with the Blacks...........until I played the TaylorMade Burner TP :)

I've tested probably 20 or so balls in the last couple years (and by tested I mean played at least one full round) and the NOB is the only ball I play. I converted from a NXT Tour and B330S guy to a NOB guy when the 2008 NOB came out.

For a guy with my game (single digit capper, but only 90 mph SS) I find it to be the longest ball I can putt well. It is not what I would call a spinny ball, but it holds a lot better than most "distance" balls.

I find driver and wood distance is exceptional, while iron distance is average. If I have one complaint about the NOB it's that it comes a little dead off the face on chips, and I have to swing a little harder than I did with the NXT Tour to get the same result. Other than the wedge thud, it's the best ball I've found and in the most simple terms, I just score lower with it on a consistent basis than other balls.

lostgolfballs has great deals on AAA grade NOB. I purchased 3 dozen a couple weeks ago-most look like they were hit once. Not one round, one time. I was not sure what to expect as far as ball condition go as I thought I would never buy used balls. For the price, you really need to give them a shot.

FYI the prices for NOB's are actually cheaper on their website than through ebay.

Update to my post about NOBs...

Yesterday I put the Nike Vapor in play, afer having played the NOBs the previous day. For me the Vapor was 5 to 10 yards longer than the NOB with driver and probably 5 yards longer with irons.

Other than that the Vapor performed similar to the NOB, except on pitch shots, where the Vapor had less feel...just sort of leaps indiscriminately off the face. Pretty good spin for the price point, and it rolled well off the putter.

I think the 2008 Platinum was meant for the higher swingspeeds, the Black was not. The 2007 version of the Platinum was OK for any speed swing.

My driver SS hovers around the low 90"s and the 2008 Black is just fine. It is very similar to the e6+ but with some more bite.

I just bought 2 doz at $29 each, a good deal.

I just had a doz Vapors given to me and I will try them today agianst the 2008 One Black.

there isn't much difference between the 07 NOB and 08 NOB--the design stayed pretty much the same, main difference being the improved mantle design. they play very similar.

there is a bigger difference between the 07 NOP and 08 NOP, however. the cover of the 07 NOP has 336 dimples, while the cover of the 08 NOP has 378 dimples (as do the Tour and Tour D). the 08 NOP also has a firmer cover than the 07 NOP. this resulted in the 08 NOP being a bit longer than the 07 NOP for slower swing speeds at the expense of a bit of feel and greenside spin (though the 08 NOP still spins plenty).

so the 07 nob would be decent compared to the e6? basically my concern isn't more distance, instead i worry about moving to a ball that's too spinny after playing the e6 which prevents side spin to an extent. and for the ones that call it a rock, what would you compare it to? i've played most every ball, and there's only a few to me that really don't feel hit when you pure one.
