Well, a perfect smash factor is 1.5 or higher. You get a smash factor when your ball speed is 1.5X your swing speed. So I would guess it is around 153-160 swing speed

136 mph swing speed at a theoretically perfect 1.5 smash would achieve the 204 ball speed. Probably a bit more since I doubt that contact is centered every time!

clip on here of Current World Champ - btw he had a ballspeed of 218mph in the final of the world longdrive champs

THERE IS NO COMPARISON BETWEEN THE DISTANCES THAT THESE LONGDRIVERS HIT AND PGA TOUR - JAMIE WAS LANDING THE BALL AT 380 - 400 YARDS ITS A DIFFERENT LEAGUE!

And when you see in Hawaii PGA guys going 380 - 450, those are downhill or with wind... its funny thats all... I got a guy Mitch here in Scottsdale on staff with us that can pipe it 360 down the middle every hole, with no wind... I just wish he was able to shoot his 67's when it counts..he has missed so many open's buy 1-4 shots cause he would lose it ... tisk tisk...

when i lived in scottsdale, i found it really easy to hit the ball long with all the run out on the fairways and sometimes elevation advantages, and of course the dry air. even a guy like me, whos clubhead speed is probably around 110 or a little more, could hit driver 320. hell, on eagle mountain i remember playing in a PAT test where i had at least 5-6 drives at 350+, including 390 on hole 1 and reaching the 18th green. Nothing for nothing, I think I lost about 20 yards when I got to florida. So I agree... course conditions, elevation, wind... all major factors. professional long drivers are insanely long, and make almost all the tour pros look like seniors.

Wow, I thought it would be much higher. I've personally heard Bubba Watson tell Fred Funk that his ball speed is 198 on his drives. Now, that is not with a longe driver or while swinging as hard as he can. Think what he could do under these conditions.

He was lying. Thats definitely not true.

The theoretical max smash factor is around 1,494 something so that translates into roughly 136,5 SS with a perfect hit. So probably higher SS than that.

Ryan does not swing a club 159, well, perhaps on a crappy LM or something.

The benchmark for measuring speed should be the Trackman, where sadlowski has around 146-147 SS. The flightscope is decent aswell.

Would a loud PPPPOOOOOWWWWWW!!!! increase distance??

I mean you could even hit it hard enough to have a comet-like tail!

agree, bubba is mid 180's at best. he doesn't have much more. Holmes can go a little harder even but he doesn't hit a draw like watson can.

PGA legal max is 48, which is roughly the Long Drivers Association max (they're measured differently, but it comes out about even).

Also, Zuback is pretty short. He's listed at 5'9", which would make the shaft look even longer. When I saw him at long drive comp a few years ago, I was really surprised that he was that short (at the time, he was listed at 5'10"; he definitely didn't look that tall).

I know someone that got clocked over 130 and there is no way he is hitting as far as Zuback. I'd say he is nearly 150 if not over 150.

a guy i know very well swung 127-129 6x in a row (cheap radar) and he says "i can only fly it 310"... so the LD guys have to be significantly faster

>>Well, a perfect smash factor is 1.5 or higher. You get a smash factor when your ball speed is 1.5X your swing speed. So I would guess it is around 153-160 swing speed<<

153 x 1.5 = 229.5
and
160 x 1.5 = 240 :busted2:

:friends:

My math precisely!

If the longest guys on Tour swing it in the 120's, nobody on earth is swinging it 160mph.

He's also built like a linebacker so that tends to make you look shorter.
