Rain, Rain, Go Away!

Hawaii Golf is non-existent

It's now something like 41 days straight of rain for us here in the Hawaiian Islands. All City & County courses are closed, many of the other public courses are closed and under water. It rained 14 inches yesterday which almost equals are average 16 inches a rainfall for the month. It rained for almost twelve hours straight today causing massive floods in neighborhoods, shopping malls...and yes..even Waikiki. The rain has caused huge rockfalls and mudslides affecting numerous neighborhoods here on the island of Oahu. A few neighborhoods are experiencing their houses shifting and sinking into the earth. The worst part of it is the weather reports show no signs of it stopping for the next week and some heavy showers to hit us this evening into the weekend.

If you're planning a golf trip to Hawaii....better make it a few months down the line after the courses have some time to recuperate. I know all my favorites are flooded. :crazy:

Not good to hear about the damage, but like 857 said it's hard to feel really sorry for you considering where you live!!

Well Reid let me know when it stops because we are seeing the rain right after you (pineapple express)... 25 days of rain in March is a little damn stupid if you ask me....next week is supposed to rain yet again as well....

It's supposed to clear up around Tuesday. Finally. I've never played so much Tiger Woods on the X-box before. I have a new-found sympathy for you mainland guys who can't play all winter. How do you guys do it?

I'm sorry to hear about the flooding, mudslides and rockslides.

 

You'll get zero sympathy from me regarding not being able to golf however. Try living in Canada and having 5 1/2 months without golf (except for BC). It sucks pretty hardcore.

Oh we keep playing. We just bundle up to the point where you can't make more than a 3/4 backswing, and we swig coffee and hot chocolate like there's no tomorrow. But we play. Hell, the ground is so frozen you can often get an extra 20-25 yards of bounce and roll on your drives.

 

The only thing that really sucks is they use temporary greens.

 

Reid sorry to hear about all the rain. I was in Oahu (stayed at the Sheraton Moana Surfrider on Waikiki Beach) in November of '05, and it was truly paradise. Hope you guys dry out soon!

Oh man... I knew it was raining out there, but didn't realize the extent of it... I'm going to be out there first week of May for a buddy's wedding and visiting relatives, so hopefully the rain will stop by then. It would be a bummer to not get any golf in on my trip...

Sorry to hear about that Reid. We haven't had measurable rain here in Central FL for a couple months at least. I'm getting sick of the sun.
