Any guys in Greater Boston?

Wondering if there are any guys in the Greater Boston area that get out at least once a week. I'd like to get into a regular group, my friends are always busy or have some excuse. Meeting some new people would be cool. I work in Needham live in Stoneham. Anywhere around either area would be cool. I know this section doesn't get much traffic but I figured I'd give it a shot.

This is a late post but I live in Boston and work out near Shaker Hills, Red Tail, Butter Brook, Stow Acres etc. This season is just about finished (it is 66 and sunny right now so I may get out there for 9) but I'll be looking for people to play with when the courses re-open in the Spring.

Once the weather starts heating up we should try and get something going. I live in Franklin, but will travel.

Sounds good!

Very nice! I've walked the course but never had the privilege of playing it.

hey guys, live in the Metrowest, Holliston...but go to school out in Westfield. Always up for a round, more toward when school is over...still dusting off my game.

i also played TPC Boston in Norton 3 times in high school, it was Norton's home course...it was awesome! Looking to play the Ranch out here in western Mass when the snow thaws, but it is a pretty penny! usually play Southwick CC, or Tekoa CC in Western Mass. Pinecrest in Holliston is my home course (not that great, real wet or dry depending on season). But it's good to know there are other people around looking to play!

Funny you mention Stow bryanr, my fiance and i actually just scheduled our wedding reception there for Summer '11. They told me i get golf discounts for booking with them, can't wait to see what they are, i haven't played there since i was young and i only played one of the courses!

DYING TO PLAY THERE!!! Are you a member? Such a beautiful course.

Yup, joined last year. Thanks, I really like the course, especially stretching it back to the pro tees in the weeks before and after the tourney.

I live in Woburn and it would be good to meet some new playing partners also.

Just signed up for a couple of MGA events this summer, so I'm always looking for new playing partners, and to play new courses. Keep me in mind when the weather breaks.
Which MGA events did you sign up for? I'm thinking of trying to qualify for a couple also.

Anyone want to play Pinehills tomorrow (or any other nearby course that has tee times)?
How was it?

I played at Olde Scotland Links today, the course is in good shape and not too wet (no real puddles except a couple of bunkers), perfectly playable except a few small areas.

Just saw your reply! I didn't make it out to Pinehills that Saturday but I did play there the following week (Jones Course). It was pretty damn nice. My play was sub-par (not the good way) but I enjoyed it. Not a terrible drive from Boston (though driving back can be a headache). The practice/warmup areas there are very good.

I haven't played Olde Scotland Links. There's a B.A.G.S. event there May 8th so I may hit you up for some tips. Have you made it out elsewhere in the area?

Other courses I've played so far:

Granite Links - immaculate condition, no wet spots even days after weeks of flood rain. The early Spring rate was great but now that it's up to $125 for a weekend round I probably won't be out there much. GPS in the carts is a plus (and they have a great 19th)

Red Tail - pretty good condition, so far I've only played in the Fall and Spring so I'm curious if it looks more like the pictures in the Summer (a lot of the waste areas are very dreary). Leaf removal could be better. Still, you can walk 9 in the evening for $32 - hard to beat that for the quality of course. Lots of wildlife and an awesome 18th hole.

Shaker Hills - good condition, some drainage issues. I was disappointed to be digging through piles of leaves just off the fairway as I thought I'd left that behind with Fall ball. I really like the course though. Practice area is so so but the pro shop and general area feel like a private club. Great hot dogs at the turn. Can ride 9 in the evening for $40.

Butter Brook - my current favorite. Can walk after 3pm for $30 - definitely the best deal in the area. Not a super upscale feel, more relaxed but very pleasant pro shop / grounds. Beautiful views. Yardage book or GPS is almost a must as there is a dearth of distance markers. Conditions through the green are on the same level as the top public courses in MA.

Two courses on my radar are Quail Ridge in Acton and Brookmeadow in Canton. Quail Ridge is supposed to be similar to Butter Brook but seeing very little play. The grounds look very nice and they have a similar evening golf rate. Brookmeadow might be replacing Granite Links as my weekend course near the city (I hope) as it's only ~15 min farther and it's much cheaper ($56/$72 to walk/ride). Looks beautiful too.

Anybody interested in playing Shining Rock on Saturday? It's a new course out in Northbridge. I have a 8:15am tee time with an open slot. Let me know if you're interested.

Interested but 8:15 pretty much rules me out :) Looks like a great course though.

8:15am is a bit early for me also but the boss lady prefers that i get home before the end of the day. as a new dad, i have to sneak my rounds in whenever i can. let me know if you change your mind.

as a side, brookmeadow is a fun little track and definitely a good alternative to granite. when i was living in the city, granite was great because it is so close but to be honest, i really didn't care for the course all that much. the pro is one of the best around imho and the practice area was super convenient. the course is just okay and pretty pricey for the conditions. for the money, i would rather hop in the car and head to pinehills (which i typically did on the weekends).

butter brook is one my favorites along with red tail. i'm also a fan of blackstone and my usual home course these days is highfields out in grafton.

Company I work for has a corporate membership there. I think we get some pretty decent deals but they have to be midweek afternoon...

I live in Brookline, but am willing to drive pretty much anywhere within an hour of Boston to play a round and meet up with others. Also, I work a lot of nights and weekends, so just like bryanr, weekday afternoons are in my wheelhouse. I'm headed out to Olde Scotland Links tomorrow for the first time, interested to see how that course plays. The main course that I play is George Wright in Hyde Park, mainly because it's close to where I live and a little tougher than some of the other courses near me.

Shaker played ok about a month ago for me, a little soggy and there were still leaves everywhere. I've played Red Tail twice in the last week and it's been amazingly good. Shaker may have gotten the course ready for the season since I last went but I wasn't impressed with how it was a month after opening. Red tail is only $35 ($41 with cart) after 5pm... plenty of time to finish 18 before sunset for at least another two months. I'll have to swing by Shaker for a round sometime soon to see if it's improved.
