Tiger to Nike putter?

It will have to be German Stainless Steel virtually spec'ed out like the Cameron he currently plays or he will won't even give it half a look. Money talks though, we said it before with him switching from Titleist to Nike balls, irons, woods, and Driver. Nike has has came a long way. Putters are a personal perference, kind of like an old pair of shoes, once you break them in it's hard to wear anything else. If Tiger should switch, I predict much of the same results. It ain't the car, it's the driver. :)

There are many craftsmen who could build Tiger a putter the equal of what he gets from Scotty. He goes back a long way with Scotty has been there since the beginning of his phenomenal career.

 

Certainly Nike could sit down and make a concerted effort to build something that would get Tiger to change, just as they did with his irons, Ignite driver, and now the SQ. But I think that everybody realizes that Cameron and Titleist will go to great lengths to keep the #1 player (maybe only Nike would go farther).

 

From a Nike marketing standpoint (and this is why they pay to play), they may not get the bang from the buck that they want. They would probably prefer to bring out something different or innovative in their line, rather than a copy of a copy. And it's well-known that Tiger's putters are expensive custom models that aren't like the retail Camerons at your local store (in that Scotty interview in Golf Digest recently, I seem to remember him mentioning the cost of the Tiger putters he makes every years - $8000 sticks in my mind). Unless Nike has interest in setting up a custom shop (unlikely, they don't even like to have a lot of shaft options), then the disperse a lot of the halo effect.

 

The biggest problem that Nike has to deal with is that they need to build something that's right for Tiger in the long run. It's huge news for them if Tiger sets down his Cameron for a Nike putter. It's even huger news if he sets that Nike putter down and picks up a Cameron again. Just look at the ruckus about Ernie Els, who basically hasn't been present for the past 2 years.

Nike was very close to getting a big name putter designer over the winter, and it would not surprise me one bit to see them add a big name designer to their stable. However, Nike has made putters identical to Tiger's Scotty in the past, and he has always gone back to the Scotty.

 

Is it possible that Tiger will end up with a Nike putter in the bag when everything is said and done? Absolutely. Would I expect Tiger to have a new putter in his bag next time he plays? That too is possible. Would I bet a large sum of money that Tiger will have a Nike putter in his bag in his next tournament? No.

Remember guys Tiger plays what WORKS AND FEELS BEST. that clause remains in his contract to this day. if another company make a product that is better than anything Nike that Tiger is playing he can switch. as far as switching balls, that was scientific and calculated, i dont believe switching balls was that big of a deal going from wound to solid because thats the way all balls were going to go anyways. the driver was done for more distance. the irons are almost exact replica's of his old ones. as far as his vokey wedges go wedges wear out fast and even faster for a man like tiger. he goes through so many wedges that switching to nike's wasnt a big deal. A putter is all feel and confidence. without both you cant putt. Like other have said he has won over 50 tourneys worldwide and 50+ million $'s. my gut tells me it wont be anytime soon tiger swithces to a nike putter.

I think right now, Cameron is embarrassed, he is a perfectionist. he's probably watching some tape trying to analyze Tiger's swing. Right now he's probably working on a new prototype for Tiger to try. On the other side Cameron does have his pride and he was called out in front of the public. Tiger's a man he know's he was wrong, he probably acted out of frustration in his putting and in fear of his father dying on him. You guys are going a little too far wit this. The day Tiger quits Cameron and goes with Nike is the day the sky falls. So far I have not seen a putter Tiger would remotely be interested, and that Nike Anser is a pretty poor portrayal. Get real guys, Tiger's going no where.

 

 

Careful there my man......I've seen with my own eye's what Nike's got planned in putters and I would NOT be surprised one bit to see Tiger stroking one someday......:) :cheesy:

You can probably buy Justin Leonard's putter for a song. He's not using it anymore. He was using an Odyssey XG at the Masters.

Tiger's gonna go with what Tiger wants to go with. Who the heck are we to say he should be switching anything????

 

Nicklaus putted like crap with that HUGE putter he switched to 3 or 4 tournaments before some little event in Augusta, Georgia back in 1986 and some were saying he was crazy for switching his putter. It worked pretty dang well for 4 days in April 1986 and Macgregor sold 5,000 of those putters on Monday morning before noon.

 

Greg Norman played a set of Macgregor blades that were stamped with a Cobra logo that never saw the light of a retail store with Cobra on it because the only ones ever made were for Norman.

 

Tigers Titleist blades were copies of his Mizuno blades and his Nike blades are copies of his Titleist blades so actually he is playing a Mizuno blade now.

 

Scotty copied Ping and T.P. Mills putters which is what Tiger now uses.

 

Money makes the world go round, so when the money is right I think Tiger will eventually have a putter that has the swoosh on it. Will it be something that you and I can buy in a store, probably not a chance. I think Nike will come up with some crazy amount of money and pay Scotty to make a Tiger putter that is basically blank and it will then be stamped with Nike and a swoosh. Nike will make a crap retail version and they will sell like they are going out of style for way too much money. Nike will make back the butt load of money they paid Scotty in one year and Scotty will be fine because the loyal fan base that thinks Scotties are the only putters out there will continue to make him wealthier than any of us could ever hope to be. Everybody wins except for the idiots that bought a Nike putter thinking they are getting one just like Tiger uses.

Until Nike brings out a "serious" putter, Tiger won't be going anywhere but to Scotty for a few tweaks.

 

correct, and he feels very confident with the SC, i would too if i played like that with it. his father is sick, if my father was in the position his is i would barely be able to lift a club, or even play the tournament, i think Nike has got a long long long way to go before making a SOLID reliable putter.

What? Take a trip to www.cameroncollector.com and see how many people give a rat's arse about whether or not Tiger uses a Scotty Cameron putter. Scotty has a loyal following of golfers, both recreational and professional, who choose to use his putters because they work for them, not because Tiger uses one.

 

Using your analogy, everyone would be playing blades with X100 shafts just because Tiger does. No way that's happening. Just look around your course over any given weekend.

This topic is annoying. If he wants to switch, he will switch. I'm pretty sure gss feels very different from the proplatinum which feels very different from the tei3. i don't think he is scared to try something new because he has ALREADY DONE IT a few times with different finishes and inserts. And if i'm not mistaken, he has already won majors with all these different putters. Whatever he putts with, he will win with. The guy has the most consistent stroke in the game.

True i have a scotty and i think it feels great but i can putt equally well with either of my other putters i have and look at every pro who has ever played they all say sometimes its time to get a fresh look when it comes to putters or a different type of feel like the one guy said even tiger has changed putters albeight they were all titleists. However i think this will be the reason not because he putted badly with the cameron and i dont think he will change to anything other than an anser style putter since he said that is pretty much all he has ever used since he was a kid. But maybe a change from that is due also hes changed alot over the years its crazy to say he wont change for 20 million why wouldnt he? Ping anser is just as good as a scotty cameron scotty doesnt have a magic fairy grinding on his putters!
