Drop Options - Red Stakes

Sorry for rehashing this...

 

You hit into a red staked lateral hazard. What are the exact dropping options?

 

I have always played:

 

2 club lengths from point of entry, no nearer the hole. or

 

you can take it back to where you hit the shot from.

 

But I had always thought you could take it back as far as you want on the line of flight

 

Is there any place where you can drop line of flight as far back as you want?

Someone will have a more technical answer but

1.) Take stroke and distance

2.) Two clubs from entry point no nearer to hole

3.) Two clubs on opposite side of hazard no nearer to hole

4.) Line of sight with flag and ball as far back as you wish

5.) Play it

That is a nono.

See post above - but the line is from the hole, through the point the ball last crossed the margin of the water hazard and then as far along that line as you wish.
