Golf in Vegas Thanksgiving weekend

Is it too cold to play?

Hi,

I'm going to Vegas the Friday after Thanksgiving and was wondering if it is too cold to play golf? What's the weather and temperature like that time of year?

Also, any recommendations on courses to play? I've played Royal Links and Badlands before. I was thinking Paiute Wolf and maybe TPC Vegas?

Its still good time - usually in the 60's (60 to 70 is normal for the high) that time of year. Can be chilly at night, start time between 10 and 11am is perfect.

The conditions at Paiute can not be matched, as good as it gets. Wolf is the best course, but the others are very good as well.

TPC is a great layout, also always in great shape.

They are pretty similar, and I would pick one over the other based on price. Whichever is the better deal wins

Thanks for the reply. Looks like I'll be golfing when I'm there then. Is starting around 1 pm too late in the day to finish? What time does the sun set that time of year?

I'm looking to play both Friday and Saturday. Would you play both TPC and Paiute Wolf? Or one of those and another course, maybe Rio Secco?

Maybe for you Hawaiins! But not to cold for most mainlanders!

Actually, I have a golf trip planned in Vegas for December 11, it's rarely too cold there. Enjoy!

12:30pm is about as late as you want to start to finish, its dark around 4:30pm then.

There are a lot of great courses here. Rio is nice also, but usually over-priced, I like Revere Lexington or Concord better than Rio. I would still stick with TPC and Wolf though.

You might want to consider Primm, Rhodes Ranch and Arroyo. Primm has two courses, Desert and Lakes. It's approx. 30 minutes from the Strip but worth the drive.

I've played TPC Vegas, Wolf Creek (1 hr east of vegas), Bear's Best, and Arroyo at Red Rock in Vegas.

If you don't mind the drive, I would highly recommend Wolf Creek. It's in the Tiger Woods video games and is a whole lot of fun.

TPC Vegas is a fun layout. Red Rock and Bear's Best are similar. Kind of flat and desert style. All the courses in Vegas (at least ones I've played) are in very good condition.

You need to start before noon. It gets dark around 4:30p in Vegas that time of year.

I'm also going to be out there that weekend. Let me know if you need a player to fill your group.

Chuck! Hey buddy, from a LV resident to you: Play any of these courses, they're excellent IMO:

TPC Badlands(if you're any sort of good player, this is one of the best-Im not that good, and found it to be hard, but you might not?)
Bears Best
Wildhorse
Legacy
Desert Rose
Wolf Creek
Dragon Ridge(from what im told, you can "bribe" someone there and play-if you can, I highly recommend it-I played it when it first opened...amazing)
Bali Hai(it's pricey though)

Also, right now, it's around 60 degrees here, by next week, it'll most likely stay the same, maybe a few degrees cooler. Bring a light jacket, or a windbreaker/vest...should be fine.

All three of the Paiute courses are nice and well worth playing.

I'd also recommend the Chase at Coyote Springs (a new Nicklaus course about 45 minutes North of the strip.)

Other favorites that have been mentioned already:

Thanks for all the input so far guys. I've booked Paiute Wolf for Saturday, but haven't booked anything for Friday yet. The guy I'm playing with on Friday is probably a 25 or 30 handicap, is TPC too hard for him? He's worried it will be too tough. What do you guys think?

If he's already worried about the difficulty of the TPC course. It's time to reconsider venues. Take him to Angel Park, play the palm course. It's very player friendly for the higher handicaps. Plus, it will be a nice warm up for your Saturday round.
