Ping Latitude V2 pics and mini review

2010 V2
Spent some time with this bag and bought it. For what I want in a bag, someone finally got it right. First, the bag is more a complete redesign than a modification to the original. It is MUCH smaller and seems to have been a Hoofer C1 that was expanded a bit with a few more pockets, more dividers, a putter well, and little gizmos I have never used like a pencil holder, glove spot, etc. There's also an open pocket on the spine with some nylong humps sewn on the back which I cannot figure out a purpose. If someone knows, let me in on it. In any case, I looked at the Hoofer C1 and this bag and could not figure out why you would buy that bag over this one. The V2 is less than 5.5 pounds and loads really easy and was the same price online. As with all Ping's, these ride on carts perfect since there is no external foot sticking out. The construction of the bag is top notch and uses the same quality zippers as on previous stand bags.
Anyway, I took some pics trying to capture some of the areas of concern in the previous model. I hope this helps anyone who may be searching for a really good stand bag that will go on any cart flawlessly.

Closed view of back and side - Much more traditional than the side bags the V1 was loaded up with.

View of the main and auxiliary ball pockets. Note the little rubberized pencil holder that will get no use from me.

The mystery pocket and fabric humps. Any ideas?

The Rangefinder pocket on the side...what appears to be fishnet fabric is waterproof clear fabric so it just looks like it's open

The velvet lined valuables pocket hidden underneath the flap of the rangefinder pocket

Another pocket accesible from top.

The left side pocket closed. Water bottle opening is big and easy to use.

Bag loaded from the left side. Very traditional.

Fully loaded view from behind. Use the 100 lb chocolate lab for size reference.

A side by side comparison with the Wife's 2009 Voyage bag. Very similar...Ping really trimmed this bag down.

A couple pictures of the re-designed putter well. Ping made it bigger and the mallet I use fits just fine. It does not fit snugly inside the walls of it, but I am not after that when using the bag. It is also a much more rugged design for the well since that club gets put in and out a lot.

Top view...Plenty of room and the clubs go in and out flawlessly. Note that I have three hybrids and a driver in that top larger space and works like a charm.

Standing on it's own. Good job from Ping on this bag.

Thanks for the great pictures. I have the old fashion Hoofer and I am due for a change. I am looking for another Ping bag and was also looking at this and the C1. My concern for the C1 was it seems like the material is thinner (which does mean lighter) vs my old Hoofer which was thicker material thus making it heavier.

Great review. What I liked about the C1 was the addition of a mini "handle" at the top of the bag (at the main opening where the straps meet the bag) which makes it easier to sling the club on/off your shoulder (see pic below). Not sure if that's what it was actually designed for but it came naturally to me to grab it there. My current Sun Mountain Four 5 has a handle at the same spot and I use it all the time. I had the old Hoofer Extreme and I would always wish there was something to grab onto at that very spot. Looking at your photos, it doesn't seem like the V2 has that feature.
Its better, but why can't they just go back to the original hoofer? In my opinion that was the best stand bag ever made. Does it have that goofy retractable strap too?
I had that bag. Other than this one being lighter with more and better designed pockets, more dividers so clubs go in and out much easier, a putter well, and a new stand mechanism that doesn't leave the legs half way down...I don't know why they don't go back to it. :) Just kidding...

The retract has a new design that seems tighter than the last version and does what it is supposed to do. It comes out, you put it on, move your left shoulder slightly, and the retract mechanisms sets it snug...perfect fit every time regardless of what you are wearing. They put new shoulder pads on there too that slide...so it's 100% adjustable on the fly. I agree the first retract version was a good idea but not designed just right.

Go check it out. The only thing they could have done to it was add that little handle they did on the back like they did on the Hoofer C1. It'll be on there next year for sure. Silly oversight.

I think the material is the same stuff used in the C-1, which I have, the material is thin, but I've used my bag 10-12 times plus some range sessions and the material appears to be pretty tough.

Thanks for the review and the pics! Looked at this bad as well, but IMHO, the C-1 looks a lot better because it doesn't have the huge LATITUDE V2 writing on it. The C-1Looks simpler which is how I like my Ping bags. That said, i also needed a bag and the V2 wasn't at the store, so that made the decision a little easier. I'm just happy to see that Ping is making good bags again.

I ordered the Red one from Discount Dan's.... I'm waiting for it, it is supposed to be here early next week.

The mistery pocket.. I think that could be used to store a scorecard but I know I'll use to put a few tees for use during the round.

I always liked the Ping bags since they fit very well in both electric and push carts. However, the feature that sold me on the Latitude V2 this time is that all the full length dividers are closed on the sides, unlike previous versions or even the Hoofer C-1. By closing the sides, there is less chance of grips entangling inside.

Great review.. the color looks great, way better than the ones on the website. I wish they made more than 4 colors!! Looks like it could be my next bag.. the Mizuno Twister 2010 looks amazing as well, but I'm just used to hoofers.. used them my whole life it seems.

I cannot see the pictures either and would like to.

Though much is taken much abides;
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
