Happy ending.

I got a call this morning from Lynnwood Police who said they had my clubs. The thief tried to sell them last night at the Play It Again Sports in Lynnwood. I had called that shop earlier yesterday to ask if anyone had tried to sell them my clubs. They took my info about the clubs in case anyone showed up. Well the thief did show up a couple of hours later and the guys in the shop immediately knew they were my clubs. So they asked the guy to wait while they checked the value. They then called the police who were there within two minutes. When they approached him in the store the guy tried to run, put up a pretty good fight, but was tasered and apprehended. I got to watch a video of the whole thing when I went back today to thank the guys in the shop. Turned out he was armed and had several warrents out.

Clubs are now back in my possession.

Happy Ending? How about...Great f*****g Ending! Pardon my Francais. That is really a nice finish to a tough day...and I mean for me, LOL. Congrats, glad to see you got your sticks back as well as the thief getting the appropriate electrical beat-down. Never get rid of those sticks...it was meant to be :yahoo:

Thanks for keeping an eye out! I went to Puetz yesterday and they said they would keep an eye out too, but didn't think anyone would try to sell there as they only give store credit.

As for thanking the shop guys, when I went back I gave them a reward so they could take themselves out for dinner or a few drinks - that was the least I could do and cost a lot less than having to build my bag again from scratch.

I'm envisioning the bar scene in Superbad, where McLovin gets cold-cocked...again, and again, and again. Did you actually see him get tasered on the video? That has to be priceless knowing he jacked your sticks a few hours before.

Dude. I read your first post and was just about to post that you should start calling every Play It Again Sports in W.WA and then read your post.

Had my snowboard gear (primary and backup, both brand new) stolen a few years back and that's what I did. Never got mine back though.

Congrats on getting your stuff back.

The funny thing is I wonder if the Play it Again guys would have had any idea about the cost of those particular clubs. I mean if an armed meth head tried to sell me anything as premium as the gear you are playing I would probably just call the cops anyway.

I wonder what they would have listed them for if they had bought them from the guy.

On the video you could see the guy get tackled by the cops, break free and run out the door. The kids in the shop said he was tasered out front, so that is not on the video. What is on the video is still pretty funny when you know the context.

I still can't get over this...what a great ending to a horrendous topic (especially with that setup). I'm also picturing the employees throwing balls from the "dime a dozen" bin at the guy as he scrambles to break for the door.

+1 on the reward for the employees...I'm sure they appreciated it, along with the excitement of a tasering to break the monotony of the day.

Dude thats awesome that you actualy got your sticks back and even better that the cops let you watch the video of it. Did you go all madden on it and bust out the highlight pen and break down the Dbags attempt to run. "Ouch only if the crook cut left at the baseball mitts he could have avoided the forearm shiver by officer Smith. Now does anyone have some turducken?"

The kids in the shop said that all they have been doing today is playing the video over and over again.

The cops also liked the fact that the guy didn't go to the trouble of taking the bag tags bearing my name (my club tag and a Francis Oiumet Caddie Scholarship Alum tag) off the bag.

Glad to hear this one turned out well for you because it is an ugly feeling to be burgled/robbed of your sticks. A friend of mine equated it to having his favorite anatomical appendage taken...Ouch.

Tasering should be at the light end of the punishment spectrum for club theifs. Had my clubs stolen twice. Once gone for good, Once they were too stupid to realize there was about $5K of very fence-able (probably not a word, but I like it anyway) gear in the back of my also stolen Yukon. All they wanted were the tires/rims. Found it about 5 blocks from the house stacked on landscaping pavers.

awesome. Too bad it wasn't pepper spray though. Taser isn't that bad. But I will never try pepper spray after all of the horror stories I have heard. You saved yourself by being proactive on this and got your super expensive sticks back.. glad to hear it..

good news- with the value of the clubs the cops should be able to add Grand Theft.....

I think (hope) the theft charge will be insign insignificant comnpared to the resisting arrest, assault on a police officer and the possession of a gun charges. That's all in addition to the outstanding warrants that he had. The detective told me the judge set an especially high bail. Hopefully when this guy gets out in a few years and returns to his life of crime, he'll think twice about stealing that next set of clubs and remember the serious twitch he got the last time he did it.

  • 2 months later...

Happened to me a bunch of years ago. Was going out to treat myself to a Birthday round at Pumpkin Ridge, saw my Adams TL headcover on the ground by the trunk - that's odd, but though I may have dropped it somehow. Opened the Trunk.....heart sank. Never got them back and home owners gave me crap for value of my Mizzies, Callaway 3wood, TM Putter, Shoes, bag and the new box of titleist's. After all was said I couldn't even buy back the same clubs I lost I think they gave me 3/4 value minus my deductable (eBay was just a idea back then) I borrowed $600 from my parents and bought some clubs. Never saw them again - still have my 2i though.

Congrats on getting your set back!!

PS - About an hour later I happened to get in the car to drive to the pub for some forget juice and the ($*%R_#*$#+* had stole my airbag as well.
