Callaway Prototype Irons & 09 X Forged

Will be legal for pro's to play. I played with a European tour player this week whos a Callaway Staff player. He has had his irons tested at the Dunhill Link Championship a few weeks ago, both sets of irons passed the R&A test. So those of you playing Callaway irons shouldnt worry.

If this is true than you have absolutely made my day. I love me protos, and have an xforged 08 4 iron, but that is much easier to replace than the whole set of my irons. Thanks a bunch for this!!

Didn't PM have a supposed set of V groove Proto's and even the new V groove failed the test?

I remember this happened like 1-2 months ago.

According to US tour reps, callaway is still trying to build conforming clubs, they DO NOT have any thing conforming yet.

The current Callaway irons are not conforming. This info was told to me by someone at Callaway who would ABSOLUTELY know.

Honestly, who is going to police this or even care enough to look at people's clubs. Please take me through the scenario where someone gets caught with illegal clubs. And Im not talking about pros who have to submit equipment to be checked.

Guys like me and most likely the rest of you, who play in local events sanctioned by Mama V's Italian Bistro. Got me on this?

Who's gonna be that guy that tries to attempt to turn someone in and then the rules officials can't tell the grooves apart from conforming to non-conforming?

Please enlighten me on this.

Speaking to him more today, the proto callaway irons heads are very soft, so after about a months use the clubs are completely legal.

This was the same with everyone who had there callaway proto irons checked. The player Iam talking of has won on the european tour this year so wouldnt get it worng. He has been told be the R&A his irons are fine to use for next season.

But they are still U grooves? Regardless if they are dull or not wouldn't they still be considered U grooves?

A worn down set of non conforming grooves are not legal by no means. His irons will not be conforming for tournament play. the rules are based of of manufacturers specs, when they are brand new.

+1 I think your buddy missinformed you. Or your Tour buddy [i][u]is [/u][/i]playing conforming V grooved irons. I am sure there are tons of pro's w/ Proto, 09 Xforged irons that have new conforming V grooves. I just don't think Callaway is selling any V grooved irons for retail at the moment (at least I don't believe they are).

Wow, was that a triple negative? Okay, so carry the 1, now 2 makes it yes...but a third negative? I'm lost! As I posted in the domestic section, Callaway has the prototype irons for $620 to $650 on their preowned site. 3-PW!
