Melbourne golf vacation in February

I may have the chance to vacation in Melbourne in February or March. I'll be coming from NY, so my game will not be in tip top shape.

 

I'd probably want to play 18 each of 3 consecutive days. Any course suggestions? Any place you'd recommend for putting together a package?

It will be hard to get on the sandbelt courses unless you are well-connected. I would recommend going to the Mornington Peninsula - it's about 90 minutes from Melbourne and has some fantastic courses:

Moonah Links (stay on course at Peppers Resort) - 2 courses available
The Dunes
St Andrews Beach
The National
The Cape
Portsea
Sorrento

+1 for The dunes. Look out for the Tom Watson plaque on one of the par 3's. He said its one of his all time classics. great links style golf.
Portsea is beautiful and the National has 3 courses I think, tough too. Great wine and food down there on the peninsula too. You really can't go wrong.

Definitely head to the mornington peninsula. Not only do you have all those wonderful courses there, it's not hard to catch the ferry across the bay and plays courses like 13th beach near geelong.

Harmony Preserve is a good choice, about 30-40 minutes from Melbourne toward St Cloud. It's a Johnny Miller design around a housing development that's stalled. Played it a couple of weeks ago, nice links type design, a lot of water and sand, fair off the tee, nice mix of different holes, some long and strong. Reasonable rates, and in good shape, here's a link:

Thanks for the response, Mike. I'll give that course a look.

I found The Majors in an on-line search. Any comments on that place? It sounds like a good place to spend a full vacation day, between the practice facility and the course.

There is a decent looking course in Melbourne right on 192 about 2-3 miles off A1A. Can't say how it plays , never tried it , just drive by on my way to St Clound. Now they have a nice course there it's the Royal Golf Links of St.Cloud. It's on Michigan Rd south of 192 , 27 holes not to tought, not to pricey. I play there when visiting my sister. It's 30-40 Mins from Melboure.
