Mobile, AL area

I may possibly be taking on a project in the Mobile, AL area, and could be there for a few months. I was looking at the RTJ Trail course there (Magnolia Grove), which is one I would most likely play. Anyone have any suggestions for other decent courses in the area? Price is not too much of a consideration, as long as it is under $100 or so.

Also, since I may be there for a while, I might try to find an apartment on a month to month lease, as opposed to staying in a hotel. Any areas in particular I should avoid if I do try to find an apartment? I would be looking for somewhere nice, quiet, and away from trouble. I dont know really anything about Mobile, but my brother-in-law is from there (moved here about 15 years ago) and says it is pretty ghetto. I already live in the ghetto here in the Houston area, I dont need to move to another, out of state, ghetto.

Lived there from 2002-2006, be sure and find a place in "West Mobile" which is a clean and safe part of Mobile. You may want to try Arlington (corner of Cody and Grelot rd) apartments as a starting point and go from there, this area is reached via the Airport Blvd exit off of Hwy 65 (about 4 miles from the exit), it was one of the newer apartment complex's at that time. There are several other nice apartments in the Grelot-Hillcrest-Cottage Hill & Schillinger Rd area. As for the golf, you're dead on regarding Magnolia Grove (Two great 18 hole courses and a very nice par 3).....also you would enjoy the city course (Azalea) and Spring Hill (college course). I found Mobile to be a very friendly town with minor traffic issues, primarily Airport Blvd being the busiest road. Hope this helps.

i'm one of the pros at magnolia grove. come see me and i'll give you trail card rate on the crossings. it just underwent major renovation and is better than ever. right now the falls is down for renovation until next fall.

there's a lot of good golf around here with mississippi and florida being next door.

Alabama's Gulf Coast is really a great place for golf. Kiva Dunes in Gulf Shores is one of my favorites. This website has some good info on area golf: www.golf.gulfshores.com.
