Hole in one question ?

I've been playing since 2002. I got a hole in one on June 27, 2005 on #7 at Pebble Beach. I get to relive that shot every year during the AT&T Pro-Am. I eagled a par 4 for the first time 6 days prior to that.

I have never had an hole-in-one my self and have never seen one either but as I've only been playing a year I won't be too disheartened.

One of the pros at my club has though, 2 of them, in one round back to back and as far as I'm aware remains the only person ever to do so in world wide tournament golf!! pretty cool eh??

His name's John Hudson, not sure how old he is but he did it in 1971 on a 195 yard par 3 and a 311 yard par 4!! Not bad considering the equipment they would have been using then and for those superstitious golfers they were on the 12th and 13th holes of the Royal Norwich (I think) golf club.

The best bit is he didn't even tell me his self...I looked his name up on the web after asking him about his playing pro days. He's always got time to give a few pointers with people at the range and hits the best one handed (with his left hand) shots i've ever seen!! 150+ yards, straight as an arrow.....although he can shape them if you like!!

32 years of golf.....single digit handi.....0 holes in one. :fool:

I've hit pins, lipped them, couple of inches around the cup and even on the lip but nothing dropped for me yet. At least I have one double eagle though.....which in my opinion is harder to do. ;)

Geesh...seems like we've been having a lot of old thread resurrection's today....must be a Good Friday thing. :pardon:

37 years now..add a few more eagles and hit pins and still at 0.

I've been playing about 10 years. No hole in ones...YET. I've had plenty of eagles.

However, my dad who has been playing A LONG TIME has had maybe 8 hole in ones. Here is a great story about one of his. My dad and the golf superintendant of the club they are playing at along with two other guys were playing a round at their country club together a few years ago. about 150 yard par 3. Superintendant tees off and hole in one. My dad tees up right after him and lands it in the hole! back-back hole in ones. Was a pretty amazing day and a story that is still talked about around the club.

I've had 2...30 years apart.

My first happened on Aug. 8 - 1979. Used a 9-iron on a 128-yard par 3 at Milham Golf Course in Kalamazoo, MI. About 30 years later - on July 16, 2009 - I got my second hole in one on a 170-yard par 3 at Angels Crossings in Vicksburg, MI - used a 6-iron.

The odd thing about both is that I never saw them go in the hole - so I never got to do the "Dance of Joy" on the tee. With my first hole in one the pin was behind a grass mound - so we could see the flag but not the hole. And my second hole in one was on a hole with an elevated green from the tee - and the pin was in the lowest spot on the green - so again we could see the flag but not the hole.
Perhaps when I get my 3rd hole in one (soon)...I will be able to do the "Dance of Joy!"

And always remember my fellow golfers - [b]"Master golf...and you master life itself."

I've been playing for 14 years now, three aces. Made them in 2003, 2005, and last summer 2010. The one last summer was the first I actually got to see go in the hole, the others I couldn't see the bottom of the flagstick. I'm a 2-handicap and have been as low as a +2 in years gone by. My dad is about a 12-ish handicap and he's also made three, I've seen them all...his first was ugly, the other two were great shots. I think I've seen 6 or 8 aces, not counting my own.

Last year my dad, younger brother, and myself all made an ace...pretty cool. It was my brother's first.

I've been playing for 12 years (albeit, I took a few years off for personal reasons). The closest I've come was about 4 or 5 inches from the cup. I've seen my fair share. The worst was when I was playing with a buddy (decent golfer) but the problem with his is that he was a talker. We were walking up to the tee at the par 3 7th hole back home. He started telling me about the time he holed out on this hole a couple months before. It was a little annoying but that's the way he was so it didn't bother me too much. I was away so I hit my tee shot and stuck it with about 12 feet for birdie. Very happy. He stepped up. What does he do? Holes out... the lucky guy. 11 holes left. Guess what was the only conversation buddy wanted to have?

PS... I two-putted for par.

After 25 years of playing, I got my first one last month.
I swear that I have been within a foot about 50 times. Dozens of lip outs, hit sticks, burnt edges, you name it.
Funny thing is, the one that went in was a straight swish, never touched a blade of grass. Just a perfect fit between the stick and the front of the cup.
Cheers, Larry

I've never had or seen one..... I've come within 2 feet of the hole a handful of times. Only person I know that has holed a shot of significant distance is my dad with a 130 approach shot for eagle. Pretty sad..... been playing off and on for about 19 years.

It's basically dumb luck and I'm fine with that.

I've been playing for 17 years and never had a hole in one. I've had a few roll into the stick but not drop and I've holed out approach shots on par 4's for eagles, but never the elusive hole in one.

Although my best close call was in a scramble where they had a new car as a prize for a HIO on one of the par 3's. Because of the prize, they had the tees way back (played 190 or so), and the pin tucked over a hill so you could only see the top fourth of the flag. I hit a 4-hybrid right at it, but it carried over the hill and we couldn't see it land. There were two girls assigned to watch the hole and they didn't react at all, so we figured the ball had to be way short or way long. We get to the green and the ball mark is about four feet in front of the flag and the ball is about six feet beyond it in a straight line. The ball had to literally go right over the hole.

I looked at the girls and jokingly asked why there was no reaction to the shot that had to have been pretty damn close to winning a car. The reaction: "Was that a good shot? It didn't go in so we didn't think it was any good."

I have had two aces... I had been playing golf for 4 years when I got my first one and it was off of a not so well struck ball, and two months and a day later I got my second hole in one off of a perfectly struck ball that spun back into the hole. Only being a sophmore in high school when I made them made it even a better feeling watching it go in.

20+ years of playing most at a mid to low single digit level, here is my checklist of all the close calls as I am still waiting for my 1st one

Hit the pin: Check
Leave one an inch short: Check
Roll one 3 inches past the cup dead center and wonder how it did not go in: Check
One hop it right over the hole and have it stop 6 inches from the cup: Check
Fly it right into the backside of the hole destroying the lip and have the ball somehow someway teeter on the edge without dropping: Check
Spin it back and have it lip out: Check
Going to have a drink now because I am depressed thinking about all the close calls: Check
