nope....they should have the Y mark on the toe if they don't have the two dots...honestly i'd ask for my money back

Are you aware that TM wedges can be tour wedges without them being Y stamps or 2 dot punched? I have two different wedges that are tour only and neither are Y stamped on the toe or 2 dot punched on the hosel. :)

I think my box grooves spin better than my two Y stamped ones do. :ok:

p.s. Most guys have the wrong idea of what Y cutter wedges are anyway, if you do your reading, it is the series of machinings and not the shape of the grooves.

I seemed to remember that all 15 groove heads were other box groove or y-cutter but not all box groove or y-cutter were 15 grooves. Looks like yours have 16 grooves, which means you are still up in the air.

I also thought the box grooves had one punch mark on the hosels.

Sorry if this just adds to the confusion.

Yikes.....these wedges were sold on this forum i blieve last week or two. I questioned the buyer about the tour issue..........response was grooves were more aggressive and different sole grind.

From what i see, those look just lake plain retails.

I've heard in the past that the tour grooves were more aggressive but mostly the price was a lot more aggressive.

I'm not sure if anyone remembers what the telltale signs of those tour non Y stamped wedges are. Some were made in Japan and were for the tour, red flag or yellow flag or black flag, no that was an insect repellant. I really don't know other than I have a couple of them.

For sure my one box groove wedge is tour and Miura forged, it was 48* (tour only loft) and it had red flag. My other wedge was gotten from a guy I trust, actually both of these wedges were from the same guy, it's 54* and yellow flag with no other distinguishing stamps or markings.

Honestly guys, these box groove wedges spin the ball better for me than my "Y" stamp racs.

Jeez, I certainly didn't mean to stir up a hornet's nest when I sold (or rather gave away at a price you couldn't match out of the used bin at the local muni) these wedges! I explained in detail to the buyer and all others who asked what the wedges were and where they were obtained. They were never represented as y-cutters hence no double-dots on the hosel or y on the face. To my knowledge box grooves never had any identifying marks. As to the number of grooves and grind, TM was doing a lot of experimenting before settling on y-grooves and if you do some serious checking around, you'll find lots of different combinations of number of grooves, grinds and flag color and any of them can be tour issued. It's mandatory that you trust your source.

These wedges were obtained from a reliable source and indeed do have a grind that is slightly different than the retail wedges offered at the time of purchase. The grooves are deeper and the milling is more prominent than retails of the period (pre y-cutter). For me, they didn't spin quite as much as y-cutters on full shots, but spun more on chip shots (could pinch a chip off a tight lie and stop it dead!), just as their performance was explained to me. They are also the softest feeling wedges I've ever hit.

As stated earlier, it is imperative that you trust your source when trading in tour equipment and it is apparent that you are lacking trust in yours. I understand buyers remorse since I've been known to question my judgement, but it displeases me to have my integrity questioned after doing everything possible to validate the item prior to your puchase. If you feel the wedges were misrepresented, then box those babies up and ship 'em back; I'll refund your payment. I buy sell constantly on this and other boards and my reputation is worth way more than the pittance paid for these wedges!

Sorry for the rant, but this was put out on the board for all to see!

Thanks

Richard

Sorry that you had to rant, but I am in no way upset with the transaction. My apologies if my post was viewed as a complaint against you as a seller. I have not, and do not plan on returning the wedges but was just curious in the whole y-cutter/box groove thing. I did not intend to question the validity of the wedges or of your source, i was just trying to clear up some misconceptions. I simply wanted to know how one could tell the difference between a retail and tour wedge (aside from the y and 2 dots), and regular and box grooves. Once again, sorry for the confusion and thank you for the transaction. I will leave the appropriate positive feedback.
