Wilson Pi5 irons -- who's played them?

comparisons with the old Deep Red II Tours?

I love the shape of the Wilson Pi5's, and have noticed distinct similarities to the old Deep Red II Tours. The older irons are on ebay for pretty cheap, and I'm wondering if there's a big difference b/w the two.

Curious to see if anyone had hit both sets, and which one they liked better.

Even if you've only hit one or the other, let me know your thoughts.

I haven't hit both irons but I currently have the Wilson Staff Pi5 irons in my bag. What can I say about them??? Other than the fact that they are not coming out for some time.

I love them. I first fell in love with these irons last year at a golf show. Until I realized they were out of my price range when I got to a golf store after departing the show. So, this fall I was in the market for irons and I was going to go with the Cobra 3100 I/H until ebay happened. I saw them on ebay and won them for $380 CDN with a local pick-up. I won the matching Tour Wedges with them as well (Tw5). I feel like I stole them.

The irons are beautiful to play, the feel is buttery soft unless you hit a thin one. The top line is beautiful at address and they do what you want them them to. High, low, fade or draw. I'm glad I was patient and got them by fluke. My bag is available for viewing in the WITB members forum. Some say that they are a little too demanding, I tend not to think that way. I did post a review on them as well in the review forum.

P.S. This is the last year for the Pi5...Pi7 comes out next year and from what I hear they are beauties.

I haven't hit the new Pi5 but I've owned a set of Wilson Deep Red II Distance irons for almost a year. These irons are long and straight. Personally I like irons with thin top lines and with soles that don't feel like shovels. The Deep Red II Distance irons have those characteristics. The feel and workability are good for a cavity back iron but not exceptional. These irons are also strongly lofted, for example the pitching wedge is 44*. Despite this the ball flight is still high but you can get some added distance. All in all I'm very happy with these irons. Now I just need to work on getting my swing consistent. :) :beee:
