3 wood distance

I am in the market for a new 3 wood and demo days comes to town this Saturday. I am favoring the Callaway X tour 13 degree. In typical fasion I plan to hit every 3 wood that is less that 15 degrees at the demo days. I hit the X tour on a launch monitor and got about 250 out of it. I did not buy it at the time beacuse I wanted to hit other clubs and hit all of them outside instead of into a net.

What lofts and distances the rest of you are hitting your 3 woods?

I have tested many 3 woods and have had some luck with some great ones (Nike SasQuatch/ Taylormade 200 Steel), but there's one that i will never part with. I recently picked up a Taylormade R580 (15*) w/ Grafalloy Blue shaft for 50 bucks used and have never hit a better 3 wood. I hit it 260 avg off the tee and 240-250 off the turf.

I have a tour issue Cleveland launcher, 14 degrees. I hit this club 250-255 off the deck with no problem. Don't hit it off the tee as of right now seeing how I'm having tons of success hitting it straight off the grass.

Just picked up a r7tp 3wd 15* with diamana 73 stiff............ I've hit this thing 290 downwind!!! normally hitting about 265 off tee and 250 off deck. nothing has been close, incredible club!!!

I purchased a 13* Callaway X Tour off ebay for less than $150; I love it yet at my age and swing speed I can't compare to the 260 yards plus some of you guys are getting. I'm closer to 230 with a nice low traj. and a beautiful looking draw. This is off the stock fuji Reg shaft too. I demo the Cobra, cleveland and mizuno and felt the Cally X was the best suited for my game.

I have just picked up a Callaway X Tour 13, and reshafted it with a Accra T70 M5. I am good for about 265 or so off the deck and about 270 or so off the tee. It is the first 3 wood I have tested in a while that allows me a bit of roll after landing, so it's a little longer for me than just about anything else I have tried.

i have the taylormade retro tour spoon 13* with steel and i hit it around 265+ off the tee

Sonartec SS 3.5 for tee usage and SS 2.5 for fairway usage.

Cleveland Launcher COMP 15*, 260 of the deck. About the same with a low punch off the tee (only time I use it of the box).

i hit my 15 degree bridgestone hybrid 230 to 270. i bought it blind and figured i'd sell it while it was pretty much new if i didnt like it. i dont hit my 3 wood consistently at all so i was looking for something different.

 

i was AMAZED at the distance. i'm not the type of person that blows hot air when it comes to my distances. i can hit an easy fade to 230-240. an easy draw 235-250. and if i raelly unload from either side but particulary right to left i get extraordinary distance and plenty of roll if thats a possibility.. a hair over 260 is my max carry. i hit my driver consistently 290 and my 5 iron 195.

I plan on 250 from my Titleist 904F with a steel shaft. However, lately I have been bombing the thing! I'm not complaining; just practicing hitting my lob wedge from 60 yds more often.

My average is not that high. Realisticly, I'd say that I hit about 220 yards average, although the stats that I keep suggests otherwise. (I always note down the tee-off distance.) The average from the tee box is 241 yards this year. There's one drive with my 3 wood just this Tuesday on a par 5 that's setup to play 482 yards that the ball ended up at 200-yard marks. So, that's about 280! (And this was not from an elevated tee.) Best 3 wood I've ever hit.

I think I'm the shortest one here. My average driver is 261 this year. So, it looks like a lot of you can put 3 wood past my driver from the tee box.

After reading this, no wonder I feel inadequate!!!

 

904 F 15* goes about 235 off the deck. About 245ish off the tee. YS6+ in stiff, and its almost always a nice, high draw. Lands soft!! Regardless of the ball I am using.

 

I've tried various other 15* with little success or good feel (TM V Steel, Cally BB2004, Cleveland Launcher, Sonartec)

 

The Nike T-60 was great, but I just didnt like the profile as much. Great club. It may find its way in sometime.

 

PS I hit 13*. What you get in the extra distance (thing is close to a driver) you give up way more in control. Too little loft from the fairway to keep it straight.

 

You need to hit it off the grass, not astroturf!!

I can attest to the 250yd average since I play with him every week. He should be hitting it way farther since he is 5 inches taller and 55 lbs heaver than me. :beee: He still can't hit it farther than me :)

Hmmpphh...you are a freak! The way you hit your 3 wood is amazing. I swear you hit it longer then your old driver. It's the reason I picked up the Purple Ice to attempt to keep up....but sighhhh....I'm still not. :)
