Need Reccomendations

Hello everyone, I am heading to Hawaii for a week in mid february, and have never been there for golf before. Im really looking for course suggestions and reviews of how they were. Price is not too much of an issue, so let me know which courses I should go play! Thank you!

Whoops, I probably should have added, I am going to be staying on Kauai. I also have set up one round at The Prince Course.

What part of Kauai is your hotel? If you're in Princeville, then book two rounds at the Prince. By the time we finished 18, we were beaten up, but chomping at the bit to get another look at that course because there's a lot that local knowledge will add (even with GPS on the cart). When I was there, the Makai course hadn't reopened, but it looked fantastic. That's at the same end of the island as the Prince. If you're staying down at the Marriott or Hyatt, it's a pretty long ride up to Prince/Makai.

Of the places I've played at the southern end of the island, I'd recommend Kauai Lagoons, then Puakea. Poipu Bay was nice, but I thought it ranked a tad lower than the rest. Puakea's design was very interesting, but their greens weren't nearly as good as some of the others on the island, but it's also about half the price, so if that's something that will bother you, it's worth considering.

Anything specific you're looking for? Might help point you in the right direction.

Poipu Bay is a must play as well, just so you can say that you played the former venue for the Grand Slam of Golf. I stayed at the Marriott a couple of years ago and had the golf inclusive package, Kauai Lagoons is a very nice course, although it is a bit odd at the moment with the 18 consisting of 12 holes from one of the two 18's and 6 from the second 18 while they renovate.

Im staying on the north end of the island, but would probably be willing to drive about 30-45 minutes if the course was really worth it. Im a single digit handicap, so im looking for something that will be challenging and very scenic. Also. since it's a golf vacation, id prefer to play Nicer courses, regardless of the cost.

Kauai Lagoons is a very scenic course, and the island isn't all that big, I stayed at the Marriott and got to Poipu and Princeville in 35-40 minutes, so it may be worth a trip, look it up on the web and see what you think.

Truth is, I don't think you'll be disappointed with any of the courses on the island. I agree that Kauai Lagoons is odd right now with the mismash of design, but I thought some of the most memorable holes I played that week were there.

As a single digit, try not to let the guys at Prince talk you into playing too short of a tee. We moved up two from the tips and there were an awful lot of holes I was hitting irons off the tee because there are a fair number of hazards you can't clear.

I'm probably in the minority regarding Puakea since it's definitely more of the conditions you'd expect on the mainland and it's far from fancy (double wide trailer for a clubhouse, shabby driving range, etc) but I just came away with a great feeling there. You'd be safer with the resort courses, but if you have an extra day, I'd suggest it. If it came down to a second round at Prince, or driving to Puakea, I'd stick with Prince though.
