Golf course recommendation

within 30 minutes of Atltanta

I'm going to have some friends in town in a few weeks and we're looking for a good course to play. I've been in Atlanta for just over a year now and I've only had a chance to play a few courses. I'd like to find something under $75. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Wolf Creek is 15 mins from the airport and a great track. Occasionally they have good rates on golfnow.com.

Durham Lakes is about 25 mins south of Airport and also a good track.

45 mins North of Atlanta is Woodmont and one of my favorites.

I enjoy Cherokee Run in Conyers and Indian Creek and The Oaks in Covington. Just 10 more minutes east of Covington there is a state park in Rutledge, The Creek at Hard Labor. All of these are quite good and can be played for under $50.

City Club Marietta is great. i think the highest rate is 60$. very well manicured and its a blast of a course. only like 5900 yards though, but is no walk in the park.

[b][u]Echelon[/u][/b] in Milton is hands down the nicest public course in GA. It' not uncommon to see both Matt Kuchar and Heath Slocum there. Day fee is only $59 right now. They have 5 sets of tees ranging from 5500 yards to 7558 yards with the second highest rating in the United States, behind only the Ocean Course at Kiaway. Greens are fast and incredibly maintained. Pace of play is super fast as well.

Another fantastic course just a little further out is The General at Barnsely Gardens. You can go online with Golfnow.com and get a tee time as cheap as $37 (for occasional red flag times), but more likely in the 50s. If you book directly the course it's a $125 round. Whatever you pay, the course is fantastic. Home to the Georgia Open, this place is really layed out well. Tons of elevation change, blind tee shots, mounded fairways, interesting bunker complexes and some of the fastest greens around. It has everything from bomb and gouge holes to those requiring great placement off the tee. Service is always top notch and the grill is pretty good too.

If you want to go cheap, but still have a high quality round, The Lion is a fantastic course.

Don't where you live but wolfcreek in town is a good course and I'll also throw out lanier golf club up in cumming.

thanks for all the responses. we ended up going south to a course called crystal lakes. it was in really good shape and the twilight rate was only $35.

my dad is going to be in town this weekend and we're looking for a good course. i have it narrowed down to echelon, barnsley gardens, or bear's best. what do you guys think?

A buddy of mine played Bears Best a few weeks back and said it was not in it's great usual shape. He brought some friends that payed a lot of money for that round and they were very disappointed. Rumor is that the course is barely making it financially as are most courses in our wonderful economy. Woodmont is an excellent track you should check out.

Echelon is a great course. It's in awesome shape and can be played as hard or as easy as you want it. If you want to stay south of Atlanta, Georgia National in McDonough is a great track. They play the Georgia Pub Links championship there. It's always in good shape and not very crowded.
