suggestions/adivce
Doing a trip with the wife (non-golfer) last week of February.

Great deals on hotels, but the golf looks very expensive. Looking at the Fiesta Americana next to Cabo Del Sol Ocean/Desert courses.

I want to play 4-5 rounds, so not looking to spend $200-300 per round. Maybe once on Ocean course. Playing as a single so twilight times a possibility.

Looking for any suggestions on hotels, courses, good experiences and deals there.

I went to Cabo in August -they say it's hot there in August, they were right!!!!- I played the Ocean course and it was simply AMAZING! I do have pictures on my phone that I can send you if you would like. PM me your email address if you are interested.
I only had time for 1 round of golf but since you are looking to get in more golf, I would suggest trying El Dorado which Golf Digest has it ranked #70 outside the US. The Ocean course is #24.

Golf is expensive in Cabo PERIOD!
Driving by the other courses, they looked nice but I can't speak for how they play.

I was in Cabo in the summer of 2008 and couldn't justify the cost of the "nicer" courses (Ocean / Desert) to my wife, but I did find the Cabo Country Club (http://www.golfincabo.com/golf/index.html), apparently also known as the "Raven" course. It was MUCH cheaper (I think my green fees were ~$70 with the discount as a guest at the Riu Palace), so I was able to play each day we were there. I started around 9:15 each morning and only saw two other groups the entire 5 days I played. No sign of caddy availability, but I didn't miss that. One thing to note -- they use "reclaimed" water for irrigation, so wash your hands thoroughly when finished! The Riu stocked the fridge in our room each afternoon, so I just took some of the local barley with me and saved some dough that way, too. As for the golf -- it was everything I could ask for on a "resort"-style course (especially for the price): Tight-cut fairways, rough that wasn't too punishing, INCREDIBLE views (especially on 9 and 18), reasonably quick and true greens, and a good practice range / putting green. I'm not sure why it's called a "Country Club" since I didn't see anything that resembled a dining room or locker room other than the snack shack near the range and the restroom near the cash register.

My wife and I go down every March for a week and stay at Hacienda del Mar.

I've played the Ocean once (hard to repeatedly justify the price) and it's worth it for the experience. Looks like you're planning on playing the Desert and I have to say you can't really go wrong there. It's higher up in elevation so you can actually see the ocean on plenty of holes. And you'll save some cash, too, particularly at twilight rates.

Enjoy!

My wife and I were first timers down there, and sure enough did get caught in the time share sales trap right out of customs at the airport.

The sales pitch was 3 hrs total (they claim 90 min max) and got real creepy at the end, but they do make good on all the promises, and I did play Palmilla at 8am for about 60-70 bucks, i forget. but then a course has $200-300 greens fees it was a nominal amount.

Although I may have paid $200 to get my 3 hours back from the sales pitch, it was weird and stressful. If you do it, make sure you bargain hard.

Play the Ocean course ... I would say once "ever", not once per visit, but do play it at least once.

I enjoyed Pamilla very much and I have found discount coupons on "ezlinks.com" for Cabo Real, not sure I'd pay full price for Real, but discount is ok.

I saw the first 9 holes of the Desert course and enjoyed it very much, can't remeber the price difference to the Ocean, though.

I hear El Dorado is private now, so probably a no go.

Some other folks have posting about new course down there, but can't remember what its called. Look in the "Mexico" section of this forum.

El Dorado is private now, and it has been slightly redesigned since going private. It is very very nice... but they did remove a number of ocean holes to make way for mansions. I have played it, the course condition is second to none, absolutely perfect. Pro V1's on the range. No sand to fill your divots, they fill them for you after you are long gone. Super fast greens. The kicker is every 4 holes they have "comfort stations" with every alcohol you can imagine, candy, deviled eggs, chicken salad, tuna, sausage, sundaes, sports drinks ETC ETC... quite the experience. This is Hank Haney's second home now apparently, he was on the range when I was there. You can see it in the final episode of The Haney Project with Rush Limbaugh.

As somebody said before you should use EZlinks. I found some great deals the day before we played last year at spring break. The Desert Course is great, and Palmill is also a good course which I believe is 27 holes. I don't recommend the Raven, it is in bad condition and what looked to be unfinished with mounds of dirt just sitting there.

My wife's friend goes to these time share deals alot. But she's good at the game.
She defends herself by saying it's not upscale enough or you're really no selling me on it or being the LOUD negative one, "it's really kind of cheap and dumpy, don't you think?". She will ask this to the sales person or the others at the time share because 90% of them are there for a free bee too.. When the sales team says we can find you something else she will reply with no i'm more of an impulse decision maker. And a great tactics is answer every question with a question. What do you think? What will it take? We can get you financing. Who's your mortgage company? where are they from? why do you ask? "Really, you are asking me why I'm asking? Really?"
