Mizuno Exsar IS2 Tour Spec vs Exsar IS4

Wanted to try in MP 52 or 57

Hi - I called trhe local golf place near me to see if I could try hitting a MP 52, 57 or 62 with the Exsar IS 2 Tour Spec. and Dynalite SL. They said "no problem" - we have the whole Mizuno fitting cart. I'm over 60 and with my elbow and joint pain I thought I should try graphite. When I got there they guy only let me hit the 52 or 57 with the Exsar IS 4 and the Dynalite Gold XP (I understand that Mizuno does use the Gold XP rather than the Dynalite SL. I hit the MP 52 with the Exsar IS 4. I have never seen this combination. Has anyone heard of or experienced this combo? I know its much lighter than the IS2 Tour Spec but my experience tells me that if I haven't seen this combo from Mizino there's a reason for it - and not a good one.

The IS4 is the stock graphite shaft offered by Mizuno.The IS2 Tourspec shaft is custom. Since most MP type players play steel shafts, I'm not surprised that your golf store doesn't have a demo iron with the Tourspec shaft.
Having said that I hit the MP52 with the Tourspec shaft and can tell you it is very solid and smooth feeling.I wanted to try the Gd XP shaft but that was not available.
I'm in the same age group as you and for me either of the two shafts: the Tourspec 103gr , or the XP 113 gr, in regular flex should work.

Thanks for the information. I hate to admit it but I did hit the graphite further - and it did seem easier on my joints and hands. I have always played steel and always Hogans but that ship has sailed. Having said that the distance on my 4, 5 and 6 irons has really gone backwards and the Mizuno MP 52 6 iron I hit did seemed pretty good. I was also pleasently surprised at how the 52 looked at address - very nice. I guess I'm headed to graphite for my irons. I know the IS2 Tour Spec is 103 but I'm assuming I'd still pick up distance with it even though its heavier than IS4.

I could be wrong but I don't think Mizuno offers the 52 in the IS4 shaft. I think the only graphite shaft the MP-52 can be custom ordered with is the IS2. The MP series irons are all 355 taper heads and the IS4 is a 370 parallel tip shaft available in some MX series irons.

Thank you - and I'm sure you're right. This is what annoys me about golf shops and "fitting". I may not be an expert when it comes to clubs but after playing for 50+ years I sure know what feels right and wrong and they insist on having me hit different combinations - ones I don't want and ones that don't exist. I'm headed out of town this weekend to Tampa and will hit a golf shop or two that does have the IS2 Tour Spec.

I am like you and need graphite for my elbow tendons. If you can find a place with Cobra S2 Forged with graphite shafts give them a try. I have these and they are a very good feeling club. I was playing Mizuno MP 60's that I reshafted with graphite and wanted something a little more forgiving but still forged. The S2 Forged is one of the few forged clubs you can order with a lightweight graphite shaft'

Thanks for the information. I'm heading to Tampa this weekend and will be playing and visiting a golf shop or two and I'll definitely look up the Cobras. I hate getting old!!
