Branca Persimmons, SLC, UT back in the day.......

My older brother and I grew up playing golf in the summer with my dad in Salt Lake City, UT. School years were with our mom and step-dad in Montana, so summer golf had to be as good as we could get. My dad has probably the sweetest, most graceful swing that you will ever see. Put a persimmon driver in his hand and there is peace in all the land, [winkey.gif].

When we were kids, there were guys making custom clubs in a few shops in SLC. It seems to me that one of the most respected names was Branca Custom Golf. If you could afford his woods, you had something special. Morgan and I never had that sort of loot, but we made due with what was given us and had an absolute blast, every summer.

So, the other day I was in a local swap meet and what do I find? Yep, a decent condition set of Branca custom woods, in blonde.........my favorite shade. I couldn't resist............duh............now they have a new home.

The driver is in very good shape, the 5-wood is decent, but the 3-wood has some checking on the heel, as a few clubs did, in those days.

Curious part? What the heck is a "T-300" shaft?

I like those. Your eyes must have popped out of your head when you saw those! The driver does have a nice shape to it, very classic shape. I enjoyed the back story you told too, good memories I'm sure. Nothing better than being able to play clubs that literally bring you back to where it all began...

I think t300 was a flex and weight designation of dynamic gold and dynamic shafts around the early 80s. It was a standard offering on some titleist tour blades. I think it was similar to a regular flex, but I'm not sure about that. How far from the ground or bottom is the first step?
