Count all your strokes? really?

Unfortunately, I only play money games with a small group of players, that I trust to be honest.
I have declined money games from players that I felt were less than gracious when it comes
to counting their penalties and strokes. My favorite line is a missed 2ft. to 3ft. putt, just to hear
"I'm Giving That To Myself". The nerve of these hacks, Go help yourselves to someone elses
pocket !!

I'll play the ball up in the winter months through the green and still post scores. I'll also rake away putts inside the leather. Also depending on the course and the conditions in unraked bunkers we sometimes alow for raking and placing the ball in the trap, and again if the bunkers are full of water we allow a free drop outside the bunker if there is nowhere in it to drop.

Alot of the courses around where I play actually mark the woods and what would normally be OB as water hazards, so I play them as such. Otherwise I actually really like to ball provisionals if there is any doubt about the ball.

Other than that I play by the rules.

I find it incredible that guys are allowed to mark their own card and submit it for handicap purposes.

The only way my handicap can change is if I play in a official club competition, you do not mark your own card and EVERY rule in golf ( R&A ) is in force.

If I enter the comp and don't submit a card I go up 0.1 .

If we are playing non stroke play ( matchplay ) golf which is what 99% of the golf outside official competitions is , then we still play all rules of golf, no gimmies until an opponent tells you so , which incidentally cannot be refused under the rules !!

The only way one can be a bandit is by playing off an artificially high handicap, but you CANNOT get a lower handicap than you score and deserve.

Whoa. What? That's not right, for more than one reason.

1.) Handicap is determined by score, not by arbitrary penalty.

2.) I could just log on 50 times and push my cap up by 5. Instant win! (Of course, they likely check for this - but they shouldn't have to, because it's a garbage penalty.)

We play skins and try to play by all rules including provisional. Having said that, putter length gimmes for bogey or worse are common. If for par or better and thus a potential skin win or tie, then no gimmes are allowed.

We don't get hung up on real technical rules such as placing a marker before picking the ball up versus doing it all in 1 motion, although inevitably someone points it out by saying "you know in a tournament you'd be penalized for such and such"

Gimmies inside a foot. Lift-Clean-Place when agreed upon by the group. It was a bit wet here in the northeast last year and we ended up with a lot of plugged and mud balls. We play the game the right way but not to the point where it takes the fun out of the game.
