Cross Hand

Have been putting with my left hand low lately and it seems to be working. it still feels weird though. can anyone tell me the advantages to putting crosshanded?

i'm not sure about others but it tends to square my shoulders up a little better so i make better contact

I tend to putt straighter... more on line, but my problem that I just developed is that my alignment is off. "sigh" fix one problem and get another! :) But when I'm on... Watch out!!!!

It helps keep the left wrist from breaking down, thus keeping the putter face more square to your target line.

For me, it gets my shoulders more level at address and it keeps me from getting my wrists into the stroke.

it doesnt matter. there isnt a right or wrong name to call it. many tour pros call it cross hand so

It helps keep the shoulders more level, gets the right elbow into a more solid and quiet position. For me, it seems to take the right and/wrist out of the stroke, which was a large problem I had when I used the reverse overlap. I have been using it for over 3 years now and it has helped reduce 3 putts and I miss less putts in the 3 to 6 feet range.

Left hand low imay not be for everyone, but for anyone who struggles with a more conventional grip, it is very much worth trying IMHO.

Lastly, a few different names seem to be used to refer to the left hand low method. I have heard TV announcers refer to Jim Furyk and Vijay Singh as cross handed putters (perhaps this is not technically correct), also lead hand low.

Putted this way for at least 3 years - would prefer to putt "normally" but that feels odd now.

LHL makes me feel as if I stay down through the putt better. I seem to make better contact especially on longer putts.

I have used a line on my ball for alignment for a long time and I find this also frees my mind to only consider pace when putting.

I was never a great putter but LHL, I am a decent putter.

It now just feels right to me.

Not if you're left-handed. This is why it's called 'crosshand'.

My dad recently changed to left hand below right. He thinks it eliminates rotation in the stroke i.e. a swing door stroke. As a result he makes better contact and putts stay straighter.

Switched to LHL two years ago when I found I could putt better using my left hand alone than using a conventional grip. Along with the switch came a pendelum stroke advised by Pelz. Also switched to center shafted, faced balanced putter last year. As long as I keep the grip solid against my left palm, my distance control and accuracy work well. If I get a little sloppy with my grip, I find my right hand/wrist doing stupid stuff and stupid putts result. I switch to conventional for really, really long putts and when I get the opportunity to putt out of a greenside bunker (rare but works well under the right situations). Good luck.
