Long Drive Competition coming up soon
So i'm going to be in that Re/Max Junior World Long Drive Competition on Fort Worth (16-18 year old division), and I'm looking at putting together a good driver for that. Lucky for me i'm about 6'3" now (with shoes ;) ) so I like playing drivers that are longer.

My driver in the bag is a G5 9* with Grafalloy Comp NT 85X

(Just got measured yesterday)
My Tournament swing is about 110 mph
My full all out "swing out of your shoes" swing is a little over 125.

If I take one of those giant swings I tend to slice a little bit, but not too bad.
So i'm trying to find a good head that may even have a little draw biased, and comes in a low loft for the competition. I'm also open to shaft suggestions. I assume low weight is the way to go?

Thanks for the Help guys.

If you're just going for distance and don't necessarily want to get a driver for everyday use, you'll definitely want to go with a component-type head (alpha, smt, bang-whatever) and a good shaft (accuflex seems popular for that, and not expensive). If you get a lighter shaft--say 50 gram range, you can go 47" or so on length, and still have room to put some lead tape on the heel without getting the swingweight too high. I'd get it set up to go as soon as you can, as you'll definitely want to put in some quality range time.

good luck qualifying, i play cobra with penley eta's 50 in. 6*125mph is not bad but these kids are swinging as fast as us, 135-150mph, what i would do is find out the distance you need to qualify, swing to that distance, then go all out after you get to that distance, if you get a club built for you, my suggestion to you is to carry at least 3, if get fitted for a 3x shaft get one with a 2x shaft, as you will not always swing that hard, also check out the grid and see how its playing, hard, soft, bumpy, flat, and that should help you with the degree driver you need, also, it gets very expensive to do this so if you can find financial help it will greatly ease the stress of qualifying, i have spent thousands of dollars doing this, breaking shafts is the norm, noumerous days befor qualifying at the range hitting nothing but drivers, i could hit as many as 1000 in a sitting, if you have a girlfriend make sure she TRULY understands your goals cause you need as much suppport on this endeavor as possible, its a tough road to walk down but never get discouraged, if you dont qualify the first or second time think of it as a learning experience, again good luck and hope to see you in nevada!!!!!!!!

idrive400yards,

Which do you prefer between the 427ss and 450sz, and how do the trajectories differ? Are they both competition clubs for you? Have you looked at the new XXSpeed series or any of the component clubs?

I really like my J33R 460 for regular play. It is supposedly a low-launch head and I have a low-launch shaft. But I still hit the thing a mile high (14-15*).

I don't plan on doing any LD competition, but there are a couple of very wide open course that I play pretty often. It would be nice to have a rocket launcher for those days when I just want to go for it.

I was thinking about buiding out at 46-47" Cobra or one of the component heads (e.g., Alpha Reaction), just for fun. Any recommendations?

the difference between the 427 and 450 is shaft flex, both are used for comp and on the course, i usually hit the 450 unless i'm having truoble loading the shaft, (ball goes right then fades further right) then i'll go to the 427, until i've built up the swing speed to hit the 450, the trajectories are the same only a very slight difference to not even care as they both go a mile for me, i have the xx speed series on order and will pick up at end of month, i will be putting in the accuflex extreme ld shaft in 3x as accuflex is a slightly heavier shaft than my penley's, but i'm looking for more durability, but if accuflex doesn't work out i'll stick with what i'm comfortable with. i've hit alpha reaction, smt, and bang, but they were not built for me so i can't really give you an honest opinion, but i can tell you that the alpha sounded and felt better than the others, i don't have the $ to really try all of the other heads and have them built to my specs. i have met a club builder but have not worked with him yet, but i can really depend on cobra so i guess i'll stick with them for the time being. if the xx speed works for me than i'll shorten the 427(older and has seen more action) for my course driver as i don't have one at the time(like seeing the look on playing partners faces after i get a hold of one). the only other advice i have is to find something you like and stick with it as it couid take you weeks to find something you like.

Wow Thats Great, Congratulations And Good Luck!!!

You Should Think About:

-Ball (Maybe a pinnacle long drive gold)

-Head (Light As Possible- Maybe Bang)

-Shaft (Maybe An Accuflex)

-Grip (Thickness, cord/not cord etc.)

Even Tees (YES TEES)- (I'm Guessing Zero Friction/Stingers)

And Even Shoes- (you want good traction right)

And Even Clothes- (light and really comfy to swing in!)

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
