How do you get a Scotty 009? They seem to be on sale for ridiculous prices, but how do these people originally get them. There seems to be a mass amount of these putters out.

You used to be able to order them from 3 specific sources, but Scotty and the Studio got so overwhelmed with orders that they ceased taking them in late January or February of this year. The 009 oil can was approximately $2,000 then, but since the Studio stopped accepting orders, prices have gone up a good bit. Just the other day a brand new oil can 009 sold for over $2,600 on eBay. Used ones in good condition are selling for approximately the same price as new ones did earlier this year.

If you're looking for one, check the Classifieds section. I have one listed for sale. Awesome putter, I'm just moving on to another "project."

And by the way, there are not "mass amounts of these putters out." Scotty intentionally limits the number of tour prototype or made for tour putters so that the collectors aren't hurt in resale value. You probably can't find more than a dozen or so for sale right now.

There really are not that many 009s out there in the grade sceme of things...a few hundred in the registry. Not counting those on Tour.....even say 500 all togther for 6 Billion people in this world....1 person in ever 120,000 has one...and thats assuming the person that has one have only one wich is not the case....so the number is closer to 1 and 250,000 people or so...so not really alot of them out there ;) , but this helps drive the economics (supply v demand) on the item taking it from the 1900 one would pay when they could be custom ordered and bringing 2200-2700 today on ebay for the same piece.

Four auctions closed in the last week of so on ebay, 2 for 2200, 1 for 2400 and 1 for 2700.

To add on to what tp siad...up until January one could "order" a 009 up until about mid Jan. You could order a putter from artofputter.com, Jim at Table Rock or PongMan. There are other locations also, but outside the USA. So uptill then starting at 2,000 dollars you could order a 009, You chose a finish (limited selection) length, weight, stampings (limited) paint fill etc...the studio decided on cover and grip. You could make the putter as crazy or mild as you like, but it came at a price, if you went nuts with stamps, then there was a big upcharge as it could be considered a garage. If you wanted a neck aside from the plumbers neck...then expect a big upcharge, if you go for a speical finish, you guessed it, upcharge etc...at that point and time the Shop was overwhelmed and it shut down the process. The 009 use to be a putter that Scotty contacted YOU about, only his closest of close friends. In fact Bill Vogney the author or Art of Putting couldnt even get one for a while and he wrote a BOOK!

TODAY you can still go to the same distributors and chose a 009. You select finish (limited), length, weight etc....the rest is left to Scotty and the studio...paint fill, grip, cover, stamps etc...you get back what you get...and alow Scotty to be an artist rather then taking orders.
