How about a review?

Cimmaron is one of the four courses that are part of the Sun City Grand development along with Desert Springs, Granite Falls North and Granite Falls South, all designed by Greg Nash.

I played two of the courses many years back, I think it was Desert Springs and one of the Granite Falls courses. As I recall, they target the retirement community clientele with moderate length and generous off the tee, but well done with good bunkering and some interesting greens complexes. The modest price for non residents make these courses a very good value.

So we played last Saturday. Not what I expected at all. Overall I say it was a very good course. It was pretty breezy out that day so it made the 6900 play a whole lot longer. The overall course was in very good condition. HUGE greens with some pretty considerable undulations. Someone must have royally pissed off the greens keeper, because the pins where absolutely treacherous. I played with one of the pros out there and he said they just hired a new guy....well I approve. Not sure how all the old folk liked the pins, but I thought the were fantastic. Now the greens out there were a bit on the hard side, but I found it to be a nice change and caused you to think a bit more before you just try to fly a 9 iron at the hole. Greens were really good. True and pretty damn quick.

The wind coupled with the speed, firmness, and pin placement made this a challenging course that day. I would definitely go back there again. Had a really good time.

I was talking to my buddy and he said all 4 for the courses are always in pretty good shape. Must say not what I had in mind when I was filling up my tank to drive out there. I had more of a Great Eagle though on the brain.

I say give it a go.

Cimarron is a poorly designed course for the type of golfer that usually plays it. The greens are elavated and many are heavily bunkered. The greens are generally hard as a rock so certain pin positions are impossible to get to for a good golfer much less a 20 handicaper.

The greens and fairways have hugh slopes so many lies are uneven.

The signature hole - the 7th - is the poorest design I have ever seen. It is typical in the winter to see a 3-4 group backup on the hole due its poor design.

The folks in the club house are nice though.

Desert Springs is a well designed (by Billy Casper)course for a retirement community and the South course is a little harder but also very good.

I agree that the course may not be the best suited for the golfer that generally reside there. But I am not one of those golfers and I think if you take it out of Grand you cannot have the same argument. Would you like a layout like that of Great Eagle?

Just curious what makes the 7th the poorest designed hole you have ever seen? I am thinking that is an overstatement. I think it is a pretty decent golf hole. Just a Par 3 nothing outrageous.
