Tiger blames his putter?

hmmm...

After 33 putts in the final round of the masters, there were a few threads on here about whether Tiger would finally switch to a Nike putter? The overall consensus was "NO"...that Tiger wouldn't blame his putter for his poor performance in the Masters.



Well, GolfWRXers, 'we' were partially correct. Looks like he's sticking with SC for now, but he did have Scotty tweak it...and supposedly now he's putting better. Oh, and sorry if this is old news.

Read the story and not certain that I saw were Tiger was blaming his putter, moreso he blamed himself...

Getting a tweak to the putter could range from a grip change to loft/lie adjustment to refinish to new sight dot, but that is what many of us do on a constant basis to our clubs...

Ya I agree. In fact he says it's not the putters fault it's the dude putting. I suppose you could argue that since he wasn't happy with his putting, he sent it off to be fixed ,so in essence he is blaming his putter. But come on man that is seriously splitting some hairs ya think?

Tiger gives his putter the "it's not you, it's me" routine right in front of reporters (and the rest of the golfing world) and then sends it off to get adjusted. C'mon people. The story didn't mention any other changes he's made. He didn't go to the claw grip or adopt a new pre-putt-circle routine. All he did was change his putter slightly...and now he's supposedly putting much better.

 

He didn't verbally blame his putter, but I never quoted anything he said. You guys are no fun, I swear. Sure, everyone tweaks their equipment from time to time, and you can't fault anyone for trying to improve their equipment (even if it is changing an angle by a fraction of a degree). Likewise, he wouldn't have made those changes if he didn't think it would help him. That was my point, and perhaps my slight sarcasm would have been better communicated if I had used a smiley face or something. I just hate those things and refuse (for now).

No matter how you look at it that quote was unbelievable publicity for Scotty Cameron. It is pretty much guaranteed that the custom shop will be even busier now thanks to Tiger's comments.

Whenever Tiger would go south with his putting there was one person who could fix his problems instantly by telling him what he was doing wrong. Not Hank, Not Butch, but Earl and Earl only. It will be interesting to see if he can get it back without Earl's input. As Tiger said it is the "dude" using the putter not the putter.

100% correct their is no mention of putter blame at all. I guess my question is what could they have tweeked on his putter?

The loft or lie might have moved a little due to repeated launches of the putter into his bag.

Bending the shaft whether by accident, misuse or on purpose is never any good for the putter.

 

I say he needed a new shaft after the Masters.
