I worked at Chateau Elan through high school and college so here is the quick run down.

Chateau Course is Public and the original. Used to be one of the best courses in the area. One of the best layouts around but has suffered in conditions over the last few years. Got hit pretty hard by the floods last year and the greens are more and more poanna grass every year. Slow play and a lot of outings which close the course for a half a day or more. Still worth playing and fun.

Woodlands is public and about 10-15 years old. Totally different layout than the Chateau but also in better shape. Still gets a lot of play and also has slow play. Greens are great and course stays in good shape.

Legends the private course is more than worth being a member of. The course is always in perfect shape and only has about 200 members so it's never to crowded and don't have to worry about slow play. Play after lunch and pretty much have the course to yourself. The staff is great and practice facility is also excellent. If I had the cash I would be a member.

Hope this helps.

I've only played Legends but it was awesome, like the previous poster said, it was in excellent shape. Great layout...it is a little on the short side though. Great course though, if you can get on to Legends, def play that course.

dawg has it exactly right about the situation with each of those three courses.

I heard that the Legends memberships were extremely pricey. So it may depend on how much coin you want to part with.

I believe that you can buy annual preferred golfer plans for Woodlands and Chateau, for a very reasonable amount. I would consider going that route first.

I will say that service is really good on all of the courses. I always have a pleasant experience when I go there. The pro shop, starter, etc. always have it together.

Since Woodlands and Chateau are a mix of members, tourists, and local public players, I have at times detected a bit of an issue where members become frustrated that they can't get on the Woodlands course when they want. I think when you become a member of a course that is open to daily fee, you just have to understand those limitations going in.

I agree that the Legends in the one to play if you can join it. They were almost giving away memberships there earlier this year. Another option close by is Reunion which stays in great shape and is semi-private. You can join as a family for no money down and $165 a month which includes unlimited range. The place stays pretty busy, but for the money, you can't beat the course and practice facilities.

The legends is the best of the three. Well actually the par 3 is best of them all. no play and greens are good.

All 3 of the courses are a little funky on the design side. Couple of different holes on each course.

as far a memberships go - They are making deals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I KNOW that they will make you a deal.

At one point you could do a yearly membership for the resort and woodlands for like $2400 and then only have to pay a cart fee.

Overall good place, good practice facilty. Just a little funky on the layouts of the course.

Only if Panoz could have hired fazio, dye, etc instead of dennis griffith
