Get out to Bos Landen (Pella, IA) and check it out!!

Several years back it was listed as the #1 Public course in Iowa (1997-2001), and was also listed in the top 75 most affordable courses in the US, both according to Golf Digest. After that, it's had some rough years and really went downhill. The reputation was tarnished and the course went through different owners and management, but never could get a customer base back.

As of last year, new ownership has taken over the course and it is EXCELLENT!! I would venture that currently, Bos Landen is in as good of condition as nearly any course in Iowa. I've played quite a few courses, and very few are in as great of shape. Of the ones that are...NONE have as great of prices.

I'm not affiliated with the course in any way, but I know it's been a struggle for them to get people out playing, despite the HUGE amount of work they have done to get the course in shape and keep prices more than competitive. For those who may remember it from the early days, I would venture that it is in as good, if not better condition than it was even during the days of it's #1 ranking. And for people who may have played in the last few when it was a pricey, subpar course, it is an entirely different place.

If any one in Central Iowa is looking for a course to play, consider Bos Landen. If you want to check it out and want a playing partner, send me a message. I just think if people would get out and experience it, they would be surprised and impressed. It's a shame for this course to sit more or less unused on some of the beautiful days we've been having.

Thanks for the heads up. Next time I go back to the Quad Cities maybe we will take a road trip to play it again, we played there in 99' and really enjoyed it. I have since moved to Indy, but when I go back we typically road trip to Spirit Hollow, sort of forgot about Bos Landen.

Yes, Bos is a very good course. I haven't played it in a couple of years, but if the conditions are good, it's a pretty solid track. They are one of two courses on ezlinks so it might be a good idea to check it out to snag a discounted tee time. I would compare it to a Amana Colonies type layout if you've played that. My only problem with the course is the Location. it's a solid hour drive from where I live in Des Moines, so it can be a little bit of a trek to play and there's not a heck of a lot to do in Pella in my opinion. It's kinda of like the Harvester, (which I'm sure get's a bit more play) a solid track with a poor location.

I played Bos Landen once last year. I thought it was a nice course but not comparable to TCI or the Harvester. For the price though, especially with the weekday discounts, it's definitely worth it.

I haven't played Bos Landen in many years, but after playing Amana twice this summer, I'd say the comparison is a good one. Mostly in that I think both courses are very pretty and quite penal. Miss the fairway (or even hit it to the wrong side of the fairway) at either and you're ball is in the timber. Both are great fun if you're on your game. If not, I can't say I would recommend it. Maybe that's why they've struggled financially. Your 15+ handicapper probably isn't back for a second look after getting pummeled. At least at Amana they have the steady stream of tourists going to the Colonies.
