I play the Aerotech Steelfiber i95 stiff shafts in my (1980s-era) blades and have to admit that they feel amazing. When a local independent fitter suggested I try his personal set of irons with Aerotech shafts, I was hooked. I never thought I would go for graphite, but the scorecard doesn't care what the shaft looks like. Matt and I are about the same height so maybe the SteelFiber shafts are better for taller players (he and I both play shafts 1/2" to 3/4" over standard, I would guess).

Interesting that he plays the 95g Steelfibers in his irons to the PW, then jumps all the way up to the 130g DG S400 in the rest of his wedges. That's a huge jump in shaft weight from PW to GW.
That is a pretty big jump but Im more suprised that he is using the 95 grammers to begin with.

Wonder what the swing weight would be in those things. I've tried lighter steel before, not sure if they were weighted properly from the factory for those light shafts, but I certainly felt the club head kick quite a bit more drastically.

How many wins are there for "non-100%-steel"-shafted irons on the PGA tour?

With this at least one I guess?

And how about the ladies or Europe? Any wins there?

Doesn't seem like he can hit the ball any further than I with all of my clubs and I'm not close to being scratch. He is a pro but it looks like he plays a rag tag bunch of sticks that are odd for a scratch golfer.
If you get a good look at the vast majority of PGA Pro bags, allot of them carry a rag tag selection of clubs. They will carry the number they are under contract with the OEM to have in the bag, then usually between 1 and 3 "comfort clubs", which are usually old beat up and look like crap, but they know what there going to do when they hit them. I give Kuchar credit, he has found what works for him and sticks with it. Im sure most of the major OEM's would flip out if he took their shiney new irons blakkened them out and played Aerotech shafts in them. Some of the best players I have ever known who are + handicaps play clubs that look like they just came from a garage sale. The difference between them and the rest of us is that they hit the ball dead center in the club face every time, if you can do that it dosent matter what you play...

Ego is the number one reason why most of us don't play our best golf. Everyone seems to get so hung up on swingspeed and where it places them on the flex scale. I have always heard it said to play the most flexible shaft you can control. Some people would rather play too stiff a flex and work the tails off to load the shaft properly. They ultimatley end up spraying it all over the place. Seems to me that Matt gets the whole concept of allowing the club do the work. I went up to PX 6.5's at one point and had a stint with X100's. I am back to S300's now and am just smoking my irons with minimal effort. I am done with the whole I need X flex thing because that's what the Gorilla hitters on tour use. I cna swing a club pretty hard if I need to, but why.

There is a golf shop on the West Coast of Florida that does allot of work for PGA Pros because they trust him. I have seen a number of sets in his shop from top 10 money winners down to 150 and below. You would be shocked if you knew what shafts some of these guys actually swing in their clubs. There not nearly as stiff as you would think...

I totally believe it. I think it was Bob Estes who was gaming DG R300's at one time. I am not trying to rag on people, I just think most would benefit from swallowing their pride a little. I guess if it bothers someone so much that they need to play X flex in everything, they can erase the s and put a X in it's place. Kind of like Jerry Seinfeld putting 32 on the tag on his Levi's when he was wearing a 33.
