There are a lot of new caddies with the official opening of old mac, definitely. I am a big fan of old mac and it has been very well received by other caddies and guests. It is quite different from the other three courses. Wide open off the tee! Its teeth are its greens and the wind. If you are hitting the right spots on the greens you can definitely score, though. I love the finishing stretch, esp 13-18. The approach into 18 is such a fun shot! The greens on trails are fantastic right now for anybody visiting or planning to visit soon!

how much stuff can we load into our bags??? headed out there shortly. i'll have my clubs, umbrella, extra clothing, but can i stuff 3 or 4 gatorades??? what's your worst story of what someone emptied into their bag. Do you guys ever speak up and tell people to remove items from their bag??

thanks.

Good question. What percentage of guests show up with the giant staff bag?

Another Question: Did you ever have to loop for birdieboy52?

:D

Hello again! We do have ultralight carry bags that we switch some of the heavier bags into. I normally go through 1-2 bottles of water in one round. You'd be smart to layer well, I don't mind carrying a few windbreakers/vests, etc. As far as pace is concerned I think 4:30 is pretty standard. Some guys rip and do it in 3:30 though. A really slow group is 5 hours. As far as the rate is concerned, our starter will tell you that $80-100 is standard (tip included). My advice is to practice long putts, putts off the green, and knockdown shots. One guy came out with a 15* hybrid that owned the wind. If you're thinking about playing without a caddie you should reconsider. Take a forecaddie at least, it will be more affordable and very much worthwhile.

thanks for the tips...much appreciated.
what's the weather like these days? is it foggy at all in the morning? If so, how is the visibility? Weather.com says its low to mid 60's with winds in the 20's. My experience with weather.com is its never really that accurate which is why i'm asking. any good pizza places in town??? thanks again!

Inside bandon dunes it's always 67 degrees with a 40% chance of rain. Always. (guffman!) ha, anyways it's pretty nice around 60 and windy. Some fog but not really much. Shorts may be a stretch, you'll layer and de-layer throughout the round. There are 2 pizza joints and I like the one in old town better than the one by Ray's grocery. If you go into old town be sure to check out face rock, very scenic. The "scenic drive" markers north of the course on and off of 101 merit ~2 hours time as well.

Hi - apologies if this is a repeat question, but I'm new to the board. How is the weather in mid-Oct? I realize its on the coast and always changeable, but is that too close to the super rainy Nov-Dec season to chance? Thanks in advance.

what have you heard on the latest PGA pros to come check the place out? Especially Old Mac....
I'd be surprised to hear of any Tour pros visiting Bandon, unless they are invoved in golf course design.

My guess that the guys that play for pay aren't interested in playing for fun. If it's not a tour stop course where they can get in a practice round, I just don't see it.

I'm planning on playing a lot in October, rain or shine! As far as tour pros presence... I haven't heard much. I know there's a fundraising event in December that draws a few guys out. One guy told me he looped for Tom Watson a few years back, though! I think the other poster is probably right though, regular tour guys probably don't do a lot of traveling leisure golf. But I'll definitely bring updates if I spot anybody!! Keep questions coming, this is fun!

wayneebaby,

What seems to be the favorite course now that Old Macdonald opened up? I'm coming in February and playing 5 rounds and was leaning towards Pacific as being the course we played twice. Also, and this is more of an observation, you guys must be doing pretty damn well! I booked my trip to come in February back at the beginning of June and you guys are for the most part completely booked. The best I could do one day was a 9AM at Bandon Trails and 2PM at Pacific.

That's wild! 9 and 2 should work well though, let it warm up a little before you get out there. I think doing pacific twice is smart. It is the toughest, I think and the one you'd probably like to have a second chance at. People that like trails end up thinking that way too, though. You can't miss any way you slice it! They are each unique, you'll love them all I bet. Be sure to rest and eat and all that, 36/day takes it out of you here!

Just booked 4 days at Bandon in February, with plans of playing 36 a day. 8 Rounds at Bandon should allow me to decide which one I like the best. Playing Sahalee, plus 36 at Chambers Bay on the way down, and then Eugene Country Club on the way back to Calgary.
Should be a great trip.

wayneebaby, is there a significant difference in the weather during December or January, and do you recommend a time to play during these months? Is it that much worse than playing in February? I'm cheap and I've played in February, but if it's not that bad during December or January I may go then from now on.

Also is it true the best tee times are in the very early morning when the wind is supposed to be down? When does the wind usually start kicking in?

BTW thanks for keeping the love going for Trails. I think it gets a bad rap and to me it is the epitome of Oregon golf. Although I am splitting hairs I would play it over Bandon Dunes any day.

Thanks for all your help. My 7 buddies and I (epic 8-some), who are all pretty good golfer, planned our annual golf trip to Bandon Dunes, November 12-14th. We are beyond stoked!!!!! I have a couple questions:

1.) Planning on taking forecaddies cuz we like carrying, thoughts? Will you be available?
2.) Weather planning for that weekend, what do you think?
3.) How can i learn more about the courses before I step onto the teebox?
4.) Playing 36 on Saturday (Bandon Trails in the AM, then Old Mac in the PM)... we are teeing off Old Mac at 12:30 & 12:40pm, do you think we will finish???

Thanks for your advice, look forward to seeing you soon!!!

@deninny: you're rolling the dice any time you play in the winter so I'm afraid I cant give you a straight answer on that one. You're right about the wind, though. Starts up around 10 or 11 and builds by the hour. Glad to hear you're such a trails fan, I had a blast playing it on Monday haha :)

@Nike: congratulations on booking your trip!! You'll have too much fun. I think you should be finishing your rounds in plenty of daylight. Forecaddies are a great call, I think. Definitely worthwhile and I should be available. Just give em a call a week or two ahead and they can assign me specifically (if you dare!). Packing is tricky... Lots of layers, vests etc. Extra socks and one extra pair of shoes so they can dry out if you play a wet round. Beanies, rain gloves, etc. Taking care of your feet is critical. Soggy feet sap your energy and will to golf haha. Advil, cigars, scotch, etc. As far as learning more is concerned I'd suggest reading the book "dream golf" and you can also take a photo tour of each course on the bandon dunes website. Take it easy let me know if you have any specific questions!!

Played Bandon 2nd year it was opened. Knew it was something special. Can't wait until I can get back and play the other 3 tracks.

Our "A" caddie was an ex-dentist who started looping after he developed a hand issue. I wonder if you might know who I'm talking about and if he is still there? He was a great, great help in getting around the course.
