Driver Distance Loss...

This year I've lost about...

Spring 2010 already done sprung, and now we're knee deep into fall season here in the mighty mid-west, and I seem to have lost anywhere from 5 to 10 yards off my driver distance.

Now here's the question guys...Is it my driver or the ball that needs changing / tweaking? What say you seniors?

Either: cooler temps, less distance

Or: cooler temps, less compression --> softer ball

I'm on this weird trend right now where I'm gaining club head speed and yardage. Think it's because I've been experimenting with different shafts

In the winter (that's winter in Tucson, AZ) I play a Precept Lady IQ plus(?) The one the Pink Panther (Paula) plays, but I draw the line at pink. I play the white... :secret:

Very soft, pretty durable, and I love getting inside guys heads when I outdrive them with a lady's ball.

I've been waiting a week for someone to confront or comfort me, and tell me my yardage loss is due to getting old errr...But hell, you guys would lie for a fella, wouldn't you? Either that or some 30 something year old telling me I need Pilates or some super workout regiment... :bb:

Seriously, I am considering changing balls next year, something a bit firmer, and not the super premiums that I've been playing. I love putting the premium balls though.

Ain't golf fun? Too bad we're getting into late fall here in Illinois...dammit.. :wave:

I'm a midwest guy too and have lost a full club already due to the weather. I switched from the V1X to the ProV1 for a little distance back, but the only way I can get it all back is to play the Srixon Lady Soft Feel. But they don't spin very well.

BTW- I'm a young one.

Teeing it up in southeastern Wisconsin tomorrow morning, tee time will likely see upper 30's as the temp. Purists will not appreciate that we play a 'leaf rule' to keep play moving; that and the need not to freeze along the way...lol.

I'll be using either a Noodle or, and work with me here, a Bridgestone E7. Very different balls but when the wind's up, which it often is up here this time of year, a lower flighted ball helps keep the balloon balls to a more manageable height.

Ever think of changing the flex in your driver? Take a shaft you like, I like the DVS for example. Instead of an S flex, an R flex, tipped half an inch, gives a nice in between result that might let the shaft do a bit more of the work for you.

Just a thought from a guy who gets to celebrate 60 this December....arghhh.

We play the fall ball rule where you drop from where you think it should be (no questions asked) and play from there without loss of stroke.

In driver or irons, I can play X flex or R flex, with little if any effect on distance. A stiffer flex does flight the ball lower.

The Aldila DVS 60 shaft is a great equalizer for those of us getting older. I'm 48, swing around 105 mph, can get to 110 - 115 on days I feel really good, and having the DVS in my driver, three wood, and hybrid make a world of difference. I can keep up with most of the younguns I play with, and get by them every once in a while. I use a 70 gram shaft in the three wood and 95 gram shaft in the hybrid. They make the shaft in an r/s flex at the same weight/torque so you can fit it to your swing speed without giving up any control.
