Bushnell tour V2 or Bushnell Medalist

Recommended Posts

First, I know there is probably a thread on this topic, but I cant find it.

I am looking at getting my first rangefinder and I am pretty set on either the Medalist or the tour V2. On paper they seem almost identical except for the V2 having 5X magnification and the medalist having 4X magnification.

However, more people seem to have praise for the V2 as opposed to the medalist. Is there any reason why? Is there something I am missing?

I actually prefer to have a range finder that I can hold in two hands like binoculars which is why I am leaning towards the medalist. I just need some help here because both have positive reviews online and they seem almost the same. If all functions and features are equal between the models then I am going to get the medalist, but if the V2 is leaps and bounds better then I am completely willing to shell out a little extra money for a better device.

Thanks for any and all of your help.

Currently I am using a V2 and my prior range finder was a Medalist. Overall both perform well and the difference in magnification is minimal. I like the V2 because it is a little smaller but, the medalist was marginally easier to aim because it is bigger and you can use both hands. You really can't go wrong with either.

That's good to hear. Like I said I think I will like using the rangefinder more like binoculars because I figured it would be easier to aim, but I was unsure if less magnification would negate that.

There is one difference that might sway you is that the V2 has an adjustable diopter. If you need reading glasses this is a must have item so that you can see clearly thru the scope. Well, you don't have to have it but it sure makes things easier.

I've had a medalist for two years now and really like it. I like the size and it doubles for hunting.

Mine helped me take a 6 x 6 bull elk near Jackson Hole a few weeks ago at 310 yards.

I like the V2 because it takes a normal 9V battery as opposed to the special camera battery of the medalist. I also like that it's larger and easier to hold in two hands.

I think you have that backwards as my V2 needs the CR-2 battery.

I also think this must be backwards as my Medalist takes a normal 9V battery, or maybe he doesn't have one and just likes to post.

For the same price as the V2, i would recommend checking out the leupold GX1. It feels more solidly built to me and has Prism lock technology which beeps when it uses a reflective prism to get the exact yardage used on many courses. There are many different aiming crosshairs to choose from to make hitting the target even easier

Just wondering how a rangefinder"feels more solidly built" I've tried both and dont notice any difference in how they feel!
Or maybe I just had it backwards. Thanks for offering something relevant to the topic at hand.

  • 2 years later...

Medalist.

I can't hold those vertical format ones nearly as steady as a binocular-type one (like the Medalist or Pro 1m). Plus the Medalist uses a 9V alkaline which is a major advantage in my book. Plus I happen to know the Medalist is reliable and will last a long time, mine has. Of course I have every reason to think the V2 would also last a long time, my own experience is just with the Medalist.

What's not to love...

I have the medalist and its the best golf purchase I've made yet.
Whoa, you kicked a topic out of oblivion! 32 month old topic..

On topic: I could make a great deal on a Medalist Pro 1600 Tournament edition. I like holding it 'binoculars style' and the 9V batteries. Also because of the higher weight its easier to aim with my shaking hands. :)

Slapping the ball around a bit, having loads of fun.

Early in hand photos of the new GT2 models t the truck.  As soon as they show up on the range in player's bags we'll get some better from the top photos and hopefully some comparison photos against the last model.
