Golf Resorts near Atlanta

Hey guys and gals, I was wondering if anyone here had any recommendations for golf resorts near Atlanta. I am going to the Wednesday practice round at the masters with my dad, uncle and cousin, and we are looking for a place to stay probably Thursday-Sunday. Our first choice was Reynolds Plantation, but it's booked. We are looking for a nice place with a good golf package. Preferably an unlimited package, but something with discounted replay rates would be fine.

Lake Lanier Island

Chateau Elan

Callaway Gardens

Stone Mountain

 

Those are the places I've found online. We are hoping to play some nice courses, any help would be appreciated, thanks!

Actually, now that I think about it, how about any good golf resorts within 5 hours of Atlanta or so.

I hate to be debbie downer, but the news is not great on these choices. Lake Lanier just has one remaining course. It is scenic but I would not call it a golf resort by any means. Stone Mountain has two courses which are a bit quirky, and pace of play there is slow. Chateau Elan has 2 public courses, a private course, and a par 3 but the overall condition of the courses is fair to middling. Have not been to Callaway Gardens south of Atlanta so can't comment on that. If it were me, I would first look for some quality courses, and then figure out where to stay so you can drive a short distance to those courses. Lots of options. One idea is to stay near Hartwell, and play Arrowhead Point state park course, Cateechee, and Clemson Univ course. Just an idea. These courses are all vastly superior in layout and condition, to the resorts you list above.

Well Reynolds is full, that's where we wanted to stay. I'll check out Cuscowilla though.

My dad booked us a couple rooms at Stone Mountain, as a safety precaution, in case we can't find anything else. It's super cheap though, it's only gonna be like $100 per person per night, and that includes a round of golf and breakfast. SO, Atlanta Golfer(or anyone else with Atlanta knowledge), what would you recommend on the north side of Atlanta as far as public courses go? We could play stone mountain in the morning, then eat lunch and drive to another course in the afternoon. Since Stone Mountain is so cheap, I'd be able to play maybe another course every day, or at least two of the days. Anything in the $60-$100 range would probably be doable. Thanks again for your help.

Stone Mountain has two courses, and the scenery is pretty good. That is probably your best option because when you are there, you really feel like you are away from it all. Just play early so that pace will be acceptable. Note it could be a challenge to play two rounds in one day, at that time of year. It will be close. You might also try Heritage Golf Club in Tucker which is probably within 10 miles. Another really good option, if you want to travel somewhere for the day, is the Georgia Club on hwy 316, which is about 25 miles east of Stone Mountain (away from the city), in the direction of Athens. They have 27 holes there, the layout is excellent, and the greens and conditions are very good. There are many other options, of course. Also consider The Oaks on I-20 about 30 miles away also to the east away from the City. Fairly easy layout but the greens are among the best in the area. It was originally intended by Bobby Jones to be a stop along the way to Augusta. Generally speaking, the better public courses are located away from the city, in all directions.

Several Alabama Golf Trail courses are within 5 hours of Atlanta. You might also want to check out Dancing Rabbit Resort in Mississippi.
